33. The Two Towers - Chapter 10

I run to the main gate to see it breaking apart as Uruks try to get through, "Hold them!" Theoden tells me, "How long do you need?" I ask him, "As long as you can give me" he says and I grab a hold of Aragorn and Gimli. We sneak around to the other side of the gate and I take at peak at the many Uruks, "Come on. We can take 'em!" Gimli says, "It's a long way" I tell him as I refer to the gap that separates us from them. "Toss me" Gimli tells us, "What?" Aragorn questions him, "I cannot jump the distance so you have to toss me" Gimli says. Aragorn grabs him, ready to toss him but the dwarf stops him, "Eh...don't tell the elf" Gimli tells us, "Not a word" I promise him. Aragorn throws Gimli and we both jump after him, we fight back to back as we keep the Uruks away from the gate. We keep fighting on the other side as the men try and seal the gate."Aragorn! Naevys! Gimli! Get out of there!" Theoden tells us as the last plank goes up, a Uruk grabs me from behind and toss me further up towards the gate, I quickly get up and push him off the ramp. "Aragorn!" Legolas calls down from standing up on the wall, he throws down a rope and Aragorn and Gimli both grab onto it. Just as I'm about to grab it a Uruk grabs my arm, "Naevys!" Aragorn calls my name as Legolas starts to pull them up. I twirl a dagger around in my hand and stab it in the side of the head, I look up to see that the pair was already half way up the wall and that there was no way I could grab the rope. I sheathe my daggers and take a running leap up the wall, I run across the wall and grab onto the ladder, I kick the Uruks off it and climb up the rest of the way. I get over the wall just as the Uruk-hai break through the main gate, "They have broken through!" I inform everyone, "Retreat! Retreat!" Theoden shouts out. I shoot the Uruks as they run up the stairs until there is too many and I run with the rest of the men, back into the Keep.

The Uruk-hai now try to break through the inner door, where we barricade the door with everything. "The fortress is taken. It is over" Theoden tells us, "You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it. They still defend it. They have died defending it!" I say as Legolas and I grab a bench to put against the door. "Is there no other way for the women and children to get out of the caves?" Aragorn asks Theoden who stays quiet, "Is there no other way?" he asks again. "There is one passage. It leads into the mountains. But they will not get far. The Uruk-hai are too many" Gamling informs Aragorn, "Send word for the women and children to make for the mountain pass. And barricade the entrance!" I tell them as I drag over a table with Legolas. "So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?" Theoden asks, "Ride out with me" I say, "Ride out and meet them" I tell the King. "For death and glory?" Theoden asks as he walks over to me, "For Rohan. For your people" I correct him and meet him halfway, "The sun is rising" Gimli points out. I look out the window as it does, 'Look to my coming at first light on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East' Gandalf's words go through my head. "Yes. Yes! The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep, one last time" Theoden says, "Yes!" Gimli cheers and runs off the blow it, "Let this be the hour when we draw swords together" Theoden says as he clasps mine and Aragorn's shoulders. We all mount our horses and wait for Gimli to blow the horn, "Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath. Now for ruin. And the red dawn!" Theoden says as the horn begins to blow. I draw my dagger just as the door gives in "Foro Eorlingas!" Theoden shouts and charges out with us behind him. We cut down as many Uruks as we can as we ride past, we ride down the causeway and into the Uruk army. I stop and look up as I see Gandalf on the back of Shadowfax on top of the hill, "Gandalf" I whisper his name. The Uruk-hai stop fighting us and turn to the hill as the Rohirrim stand behind Gandalf, "To the King!" Eomer shouts and they charge down the hill. The Uruks point their spears towards them but get blinded by the sun as the last rider comes down the hill, I watch as the Rohirrim ride through the Uruks. I nudge Nuala back into the fight and we manage to make the Uruks flee from Helm's Deep, the men shout in victory. We ride after the Uruk-hai as they run into the line of the trees, "Stay out of the forest! Keep away from the trees!" Eomer shouts out as he rides up and down in front of us. We watch as the trees start to sway and groan, we could hear the screams of the Uruks as the trees come to life. I get down from Nuala and pet her on the neck before getting picked up, I laugh as I get spun in the air by Aragorn, he stops spinning and we embrace each other.

Gandalf, Theoden, Eomer, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, and I, all sit on our horses that over look Mordor. "Sauron's wrath will be terrible, his retribution swift. The battle for Helm's Deep is over. The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin. All our hopes now lie with two little hobbits. Somewhere in the wilderness" Gandalf tells us.
