The Actor

1. The Actor

The make-up shields my face,

Covers my fears,

My ugly disgrace.

Past my disguise,

Nobody can see,

The sadness in my eyes.

Nobody sees the hurt and sorrow,

When I wonder,

What lays ahead, tomorrow.

When the mask that protects me disappears,

I feel lonely,

And taken over by my fears.

And only then is the truth revealed,

A broken heart,

Which has never healed.

On the screen,

You see somebody,

Somebody who isn’t me.

I put on a show.

But the truth,

You’ll never know.

I lie and pretend,

So you cannot see what’s real,

But when the day ends,

It is all uncovered,

And the truth about me,

Is finally discovered.
