1. A July Evening

It was a bright July evening, not unlike every other July evening, not unusual in the slightest. Jodie and her parents had been invited over to her neighbours' big Victorian house, because Jodie's family had just moved in. The neighbours were very friendly, and the husband, Will, was cooking burgers. Whilst her dad and Will were talking, the daughter, whose name was Janie, entertained Jodie with tales of the house ghost.

"She's got long dark hair, and big dark eyes, and she's Victorian, so she's wearing this white nightdress that's stained with blood because she was stabbed whilst she was sleeping!" Janie's cornflower blue eyes widened theatrically as she talked. Her voice dropped to a whisper, "She now roams the house and garden, and I saw her once!"

"Hah!" exclaimed Jodie. "I don't believe you."

"You'll see." said Janie, looking a bit put out.

"I certainly hope so," Jodie said dryly.
