21. Chapter 21

We're all sitting in Bronx's room a few days later just listening to Brendon Urie sing
"permanent jet lag,
please take me back,
please take me back,
I'm a stray dog sick,
please let me in,
please let me in."

As we sit I use a tube of brown gooey liquid and make tiny flowers of henna on my girlfriends left arm, and she sits very still.
I make all types of flowers and vines with birds or small patters to fill up as much of her arm as possible and Mae does the other arm with a floral pattern as well, but with larger, more detailed flowers and a bandana-style pattern, and she uses a thin applicator to do Bring Me the Horizon's Sempiternal album art cover.

When Henna is all done we sit in a circle and talk about stupid shit and eat microwave popcorn, and I have to hand feed Henna so she can have some till her arms dry.

"Destination: permanent vacation"
Henna sings to me with a huge grin on her face.
I kiss her and Thomas makes a gagging noise and I stick up the middle finger in his general direction.

"Go away" I say and he sticks out his tongue at me like a little kid.
I roll my eyes and he smirks and I turn away from him to Bronx and stare at him quietly.

"I'm bored" Prince says.
"Same. Let's do something" I add.
"Like what?" Banter asks.
"I want to do something that's not physical" Thomas groans.
"I want to do something that gets me thinking, but like, good thoughts" Henna says.

"Okay. Where do we see ourselves in five years?" I ask.
"Ooh. That's a good one" Bronx says.
We all sit and think for awhile, cause that is a deep question.

"Well I hope to maybe be engaged or getting married soon, maybe a good job or end up with a career I like" Bronx says first.
"Lame man. I'm sorry but that's lame" I say and he smiles and rolls his eyes.

"I want to be really happy and be open with a lot more people and maybe be like a teacher for art class or something fun" Mae says.

"A cross between Tony Hawk and Mark Hoppus" Banter says and I laugh. A skate boarding bass playing 21 year old.
Nice.

"I want to own my own coffee shop or café" Prince says.
"Oh and have a library in my café or a major book collection" he adds and I nod because that has Prince written all over it.

"I want to be on the run from the cops" Thomas says and I glare at him.
"Okay, okay. Actually I want to be a councillor or therapist or college teacher, cause I want to help people" Thomas shares and I applaud him for his honesty.

"I want to be happy and whole and maybe be somewhere successful like CEO or branch manager of a clothing label or be a best selling author" Henna says and I grab her hand and lace our fingers together and smile at her.

"Well personally, I just want to travel around and meet new people and go to festivals and concerts and sight see and taste different foods and shop at different stores and experience different cultures, I want some type of change and a new pace, some type of different" I say and think about how cool it would be to get a van and travel the country like the 70's stereotype teenager/ young adult.

It gets quiet and we're all kinda just staring at Pixie, waiting for her to talk.
"Pixie you okay babe?" I ask, as she stares at her shoes expressionless.

"Uh... Alive. I want to be alive in 5 years. I don't want to randomly drop dead or get hit by a car or anything bad to happen. The reality is, is that we don't even know if we have tomorrow, we could die right now or in 26 minutes, so in five years I want to be alive. I want to be alive tonight, tomorrow, next week, next month, two months from now, two years from now, just alive is good enough for me. I don't want to be immortal, but I want to make it day to day till I know I've lived a good life. So it doesn't matter to me what I'll be doing in 5 years, as long as I'm doing something at all and not six feet under" Pixie replies, and all our mouths hang open.
"Holy shit Pix, that was so deep and that was like the longest I've ever heard you talk" Mae says in shock.
"Well thanks for that, you just blew all of our hopes and dreams out of the water with that two page, size 12, times new roman, double spaced word document that was a perfectly structured explanation of the meaning of all life" I say dramatically and sarcastically.

Pixie laughs and it makes me smile that she's talking so much with us and opening up with us.

It's always nice to see the shell of insecurity slowly break off, even if it's the weirdest way possible like our friendship is.

"Guys do you hear this song? It's like, our life story" I say and we all be quiet as Put Em Up by Priory plays.

They said when I was young I,
had some kind of sickness.
See how I have weathered.
You tell me if I'm better.

If my mother had her way her,
son would be a preacher.
You lookin' for redemption,
Were bringin' that old fashioned healin'

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
You won't like me.

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
It's not like me.

Boys will be boys,
who like boys,
who dress like girls,
and that's alright.

We're hangin' with the boys that look like girls tonight.

Girls will be girls,
who like girls,
who dress like boys,
and start up fights.

We're hangin' with the girls that look like boys alright.

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
You won't like me.

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
It's not like me.

If my mother had her way her,
son would be a preacher.
You lookin' for redemption,
I bring that old fashioned healin'.

I don't care if you're a Christian,
or a Hare Krishna.
Who gave you the right to,
judge another's lover?

Now's the time for changing,
So keep the hate from creepin' in.
'Cause the bed that you're building,
is the one you gonna sleep in.

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
You won't like me.

(so c'mon c'mon c'mon)

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up.
It's not like me.

Boys will be boys,
who like boys,
who dress like girls,
and that's alright.

We're hangin' with the boys that look like girls tonight.

Girls will be girls,
who like girls,
who dress like boys,
and start up fights.

We're hangin' with the girls that look like boys alright.

Don't make me put 'em up,
Don't make me put 'em up"

Everyone has huge smiles on their faces and we all nod in agreement.
