Linda sat on the other leather chair so that she was facing Gregory. He face had lost its lustre which made her look older than she actually was. She had lost so much weight as well. Mollie played with her toys on the floor and was oblivious of both of them she made a gurgling sound as she picked up some wooden building blocks then placed them on top of each other.

“She‘s growing up fast said Greg as he took a sip of his coffee.

“Yes she starts the special school for kids with Downs Syndrome on Monday.

“Good; Downs’s kids can still live quite a normal life other than the fact they won’t be educationally academic.

“Look why I asked you here is to tell you that Tom isn’t prepared to look after Mollie once I am no longer around.

“So you are asking me to take Mollie?

“Well mother and father couldn’t cope not at their age.”

“What about the house then; Tom isn’t having it is he?

“No it will be sold and the money will be used for private care for Mollie; whilst you are at work.”

“What happens if I’m suddenly called out?

“You will meet that when the time comes I’m sure.

“When will I have to do this?

I go into hospital on Monday; it is unlikely that I will come out again the cancer in my breast is quite aggressive it is spreading to other parts of my body. Soon I will lose function.

“I will make arrangements for you if you like?

“Would you? That would take the pressure off me.”

“Not a problem.

“I will get Tom to pack all her stuff for you and he will drop it off before Mollie comes.”

“Alright is there anything else that you would like me to do?

“No Tom has taken care of all the funeral arrangements and everything.

“Greg got up from the chair then said goodbye to Mollie as he made his way out. He then hugged his ex wife.

“See you in the next life said Linda as Tom got into his car and drove away.”

Greg couldn’t help thinking how cruel life can be sometimes. God gives with one hand and takes away with the other.

Linda was only thirty years old; younger than him by two years. He thought how he was going to cope with Mollie as he parked up outside the bungalow then walked over the road into the “Quarry Tavern.”
