Norman Fawcett received a letter informing him and Tug Fawcett that he wouldn’t be given a title shot at this time because Paul Gypsy King had fought the best around and was more experienced and that he would meet Paddy Walker on the 12th of July at Wembley Arena. Bill Peters was also being side stepped. Norman rang the board to complain arguing that both of his boxers had fought elimination bouts and had not lost. It made no difference the decision had been made and the only way either of his fighter’s would get a chance was if one of the challengers got injured.

Norman now had to go and tell his fighter’s

Bill and Tug were still working on the “Deep Quest” when Norman broke the news to them.

“We cannot wait forever for a title shot dad; said Tug as he put down his spray gun.

“Well, we cannot let you both go stale so I will fix you both up as soon as I can but its going to be tough because people now know that you are both title contenders. Not many fighters are going to want o step inside the ring with either of you unless they fancy themselves to win a title shot by beating you.

“I will be in touch if something turns up. Keep yourselves in shape; see you later.

Tug replaced his face mask and continued working on the ships hull.

It was over two months when Norman got back in touch to inform them that Paul Gypsy King had taken he title from Paddy Walker by unanimous point’s decision.

The board have named you as challenger for the title and it will take place on November the fifth.

“Guy Fawkes night said Tug. This fight is certainly going to go with a bang.”

Bill laughed.

“What about me said Bill did the board say anything?

“Sorry mate they are not budging yet; they are saying you have to fight all the top contenders first before they will give you a shot at the British title.

“If I were white I would have had my shot by now; you know that Norman.”

“Bloody boxing politics Bill, you know how it is.”

“Only too well Norman.”

How many would I have to beat before they will sanction a title shot?

“There are eight contenders Bill.”

“Who are they?

“There is John Schofield from Leicester, Bobby Groves from West ham, Tommy Conroy from Blaydon, Paddy Hallet from Dublin, Alex Stewart from Glasgow, Dave Garside from Newcastle West End, Glen McCory from Anfield Plain in County Durham and Stewart Lithgow from Hartle pool.

“I will fight all the local guys first so bring on Lithgow first then McCory, then Garside and finally Conroy.

“I will show them I am the real McCoy.”

“Lithgow this Saturday it is then.”
