It took the judges a long time before a decision was made. The fighter’s were called to the centre of the ring where the referee waited until the announcer relayed the verdict.

Both fighters waited with baited breath.

“Can you show your appreciation for a fantastic contest ladies and gentleman? The crowd gave both fighter’s a generous round of applause.

“The result is a draw.”

Paul shook hands with Tug after telling him it was a great fight.

Both men left the ring and made their way to their dressing rooms.

“What will happen now said Tug to his father?

“Well it will be up to the board to decide son; they may ask for a return bout or one of you will get the shot at the title.

Bill Peters was warming up; he stopped momentarily then came over to Tug Fawcett to congratulate him on a fantastic contest. “I was watching from the back of the hall said Bill.”

“Well I hope that you win against O’Hanlon. Watch out for the low blows Bill he’s noted for it.

Bill nodded as he made his way to the ring.

O’Hanlon was taller than Bill by two inches and had an impressive record with twenty nine wins from thirty two contests two loses and one draw.

Once the announcements were made the fight got under way. O’Hanlon charged over and caught Bill cold he staggered back against the ropes where O’Hanlon was ready to follow up he measured Bill with his left then fired the right but bill moved smartly to his left and threw a left hook which caught O’Hanlon flush on the jaw, his legs buckled for an instant but he managed to grab hold of Bill. O’Hanlon threw an uppercut below the belt but it only caught Bill on the thigh. It was like getting kicked and having a dead leg. Bill couldn’t feel his left leg at all. Bill decided to go onto the attack to see how the big man coped under pressure but his success was short lived when the bell sounded to end the round. The Irish contingents were screaming for O’Hanlon to knock out the North Shields fighter.

Norman asked Bill what he was doing out there.

“Don’t worry Norman he’s going to blow himself out in a few rounds and I will take him.”

Well I hope you know what you are doing try not to let him get in close.

“Yeah, he hit my thigh but I know where he was trying to hit me Norman.”

After replacing his gum shield after a sip of water the bell sounded again for the start of the second round; again O’Hanlon came charging over throwing big bombs but Bill was ready for him this time, he parried the jab then countered with a solid punch to his ribs then another left hook to his jaw. Bill then moved out of the way as the Irishman Morris O’Hanlon was left punching thin air.

Every time the Irishman set himself for a big punch Bill moved away.

By the end of the fifth round the Irishman was beginning to tire; his mouth hung open and his left eye was closing after right cross sent a spray of water from his head as it landed.
