Ged found a couple of white shirts and some underwear; he added them to the wash and set it away.

He cleared the table and emptied the pedal bin. He then went outside and put out the ash bin and the rubbish for the binmen. The house was relatively clean as there was only him living in the house. After making himself a pot of tea Ged went to bed.

The light coming through a crack in the curtains woke him up it was only six o’clock in the morning. Ged wasn’t a one for lying in bed on his days off he swung his legs over the side of the bed then put on his trousers before coming down stairs and putting the kettle on. There was just enough milk to colour his tea he made a list of things to buy when he washed and shaved. Ged hung the sheets and shirts out to dry on the washing line then threw on his jacket placed the cap on his head before walking down the back lane. He couldn’t see the point of putting the fire on when he wasn’t going to be back for a couple of hours. His friend Rob Abraham was busy in his allotment as Ged walked down the pathway.

“Turn the tap off for me Ged will you my water butts are full now and I’ve already watered the plants. Rob had an assortment of vegetables he grew for the shows.

“How’s it going then mate?

“I’m alright Rob and you?

“Well the missus is still a pain in the bum but what else is new.

Ged laughed to himself.

“I suppose you heard about Catherine then.”

“Yes mate; Alec is keeping a low profile in case you set about him again.”

“I never thought he would do that to me Rob.”

“Whey; It takes two to tango though Ged; you know that?

“I do, still can’t believe it though.

“Where is she?

“I told her to go back home to her mother.”

“So are you looking after the house on your own?

“Yes it’s not a problem without any kids to look after; the house stays clean.

“I came to ask if you had any eggs you could sell me.

“Hold on I will sort you out.”

Five minutes later Rob gave him two plastic carrier bags full of vegetables and a dozen eggs.

Ged went into his pocket but Rob told him to put his money away.

“I’m going down to the club tonight if you fancy a pint or two with me.

“Yes, I will be taking Christine tonight so I will keep you a seat.”

“Right I’m going to drop these back home then head to the butchers.

Pop by tomorrow as a friend of ours is getting me some rabbits.”

“Is Jim Toby out shooting again?

“Yes and he is bring me a couple of boiling chickens as well so you can have one if you want.”

“Great I can make some soup and a rabbit pie; cheers Rob; right I’m, off see you later.
