Albert waits until all his fish are sold and then he is given a cheque for £20.000 pounds. He is very pleased with the result as his fish brought a better price than expected. The lads will receive a bonus this trip.

Instead of going home all the lads make their way to the Dolphin public house.

Kim Thomson serving behind the bar asked the lads what they wanted.

Chris Lorrimer orderedthe drinks

Seven bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale and a pint of Carlsberg Lager Kim please.

Go sit down Chris, I will bring them over.

The bar had large wooden beer barrels varnished as tables and the chairs were made from old wooden train sleepers.

Kim brought a tray with their drinks and set them down. “That will be three pounds ten pence please Chris.”

“See the skipper he’s paying he said as he took out his backy tin and rolled himself a cigarette. The Green Rizler Cigarette Paper was expertly held whilst the Golden Virginia Tobacco was spread with the fingers to each end of the paper. Then the paper was licked on the gummed edge and neatly rolled between finger and thumb. It was bounced on one end on the table before placing it in his mouth and lighting it.

He took his half pint glass then felt the bottle to make sure it was cold before tilting the glass at forty five degrees and slowly pouring.

He then smacked his lips as he brought the glass to his mouth and swallowed.

“Ah bloody nectar.

Brian Boyer drank lager.

Mick Armstrong got himself a packet of nuts from the bar but whilst he was away at the toilet Alvin Willis opened the packet and shared them out with the rest of the lads.

He placed the empty packet back on the table and the lads just talked away as if nothing had happened.

Mick came back then picked up the empty packet. “Right whose ate my nuts?

“Your nuts are to salty Mick you’ve been out at sea too long.”

“You bunch of sods, you ate them didn’t you?

“Well if you weren’t such a greedy bugger you would have bought some for all of us.

The whole table fell about laughing until Albert gave him a ten bob note and told him to get everyone a packet of nuts this time.

Mick went back to the bar and asked Kim for nine packets of nuts.

“Get the round in whilst your up as well shouted Tommy Cottingham.

“Same again Mick Kim asked?

“Go on then Kim.”

Mick came back gave Albert the ten bob and got a fiver off him in its place. He walked back with the tray and the lads took the nuts until there wasn’t any left for him. Alvin had taken two packets and had slipped one in his pocket.

“Come on now you lot give me my nuts back shouted Mick.”

There was a group of women on the table next to his and one of them spoke to Mick as he was about to sit down” Your nuts look alright from where we are sitting Mick.”
