Lakeside

For one of the competitions about poetry and lyrics etc. this is probably the single subject I have written the most poetry about, and this is one of my favourite attempts.

1. Lakeside

Late July,
The sun set slowly behind thick rows of trees,
A warm summer evening,
A glowing orange light.

We sat,
Not touching but close,
Speaking comfortably and constantly,
Watching our reflections in the lake.

He wore my sunglasses,
Not because of the sun
But because he wanted to,
As the day slowly dimmed into night.

He wanted to wear my shades,
Like he wanted to sit next to me,
And put his arm around me,
As cameras flashed at our smiles.

And we laughed,
And laughed and laughed,
And drew and spoke and wrote,
And etched those moments into history.
