My jokes are my mask

Everyone on the Argo II knows Leo for being the comedy relief, and that he never takes anything seriously. But what if behind all that, he's broken and tired? Leo's mask begins to slip away just when he needs it as Gaea's plan unravels and Leo has a bigger part to play than he planned.

1. I finally sleep again.

It was a beautiful day. There was no denying it. Apollo had clearly felt sorry for us poor demigods souls and decided to make what could be their last few days memorable. I cheerfully walked into the mess hall. Everyone was already there.

"Good timing Leo," Jason smiled briskly and pulled out a chair next to him for me to sit, "we were just about to call a meeting to discuss our next preparations."

I sat down and grabbed a fonzie. Italian or not, these were truly the food of the gods. I stuffed them in my mouth and swallowed without chewing. I rubbed away some crumbs and yawned for nearly a minute.

"Are you alright?" Piper frowned at me.

I shrugged. "Actually, I think I might be coming down with something. But it's nothing serious Pipes, don't worry." I reassured. She still didn't looked convinced, but turned to face Hazel.

"Hazel, you said you had a dream?"

"Um, yeah. It was just the usual really. But this time, it was different. It had a colder feeling to it. I woke up freezing, and I had two blankets!"

I shivered. It better not be Khione. Man, that lady was annoying. beautiful, but annoying. Piper and Jason exchanged looks I couldn't quite understand, but I knew one thing, and that was that they thought of Khione too.

"Dude, at least you got sleep." I yawned.

"What do you mean?" Hazel looked quizzically at me.

"I can't sleep. Every time i do, BAM! Nightmares, but like, wake up in a pool of tears nightmares. Haven't slept in weeks." My face went red, regretting opening my mouth instantly. I should not have said that.

"Leo, when was the last time you slept?" Hazel asked.

"Err... Well," I counted my fingers. " I last slept around when Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus, so nearly... Two months." I got ready for impact.

"Then you need to sleep now!" Piper grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and pulled me up out of my chair. "Honestly Leo your such an idiot!" She dragged me out of the room, all the way into the infirmary. She set me down onto a bed. I collapsed onto it and groaned.

"No wonder you look like a ghost! Seriously Valdez, dreams or not, sleep is vital!"

"Machines don't have to sleep." I grumbled.

"Well your not a machine. Go to sleep. I'll come if we need you."

Too sleepy to argue, I closed my eyes and pulled myself under the covers. The bed was comfy. Like, way too comfy. I tried to lug myself out of bed, but my eyes were already closing.

"Dammit." I croaked, and collapsed heavily back onto the bed before falling into a deep sleep.
