You.

So this is a poem I wrote back in January and have edited for the competition. I haven't really written in this style before so I'm not sure if it worked well or not, but I'd love to hear your opinion in the comments :) (credit to the wonderful Lia is a Zebra for the cover)

I step into the
Room.
The familiar arrangement of the
Chairs and
Tables and
Piano
Before me.

And you.

And some day I will
Step into this room and perhaps you
Won't be here.
Perhaps I'll expect the
Old woman sitting in the corner with
Tea she can't sip and
Food she can barely eat and
I'll expect you to look at me as if you
Have
No
Clue.

Except you won't.

And then when I expect the
Worst, you'll be right
There.
And I'll wish you
Everything I have
Left.
Every loving part of
Me that loves
You.

And maybe I don't
Show it enough but it's
Hard.
It's hard to love someone who's
Already
Gone.
But isn't.

It's hard to love someone who
Doesn't even know who the
Hell
You
Are.
But I try.
And I
Try.

I try to see you as I did before,
Before it all happened.
But it's
Difficult.
Because all I see is
This:
Your new suffering self.

And how I wish I saw
More.
How I wish I saw the days when we would
Sit side by side and simply just
Talk.
But those days are
Gone.

And one day your body will
Die too alongside your
Mind.
That'll be the day I
Step into the room and
Expect the best but
Receive the worst.

I already hate that day.
