The Tragic Kingdom

Disney has a reputation for taking seemingly horrifying stories and making them 'kid friendly,' what if they weren't changed... Warning: Might ruin your childhood.

13. Pinocchio

One of the oddest but most beloved Disney films, much to the love of its main song, the original story of Pinocchio, written by Carlo Collodi is a lot different. Unlike in the Disney version where Gepetto loves Pinocchio like a son after wishing upon a star that he has a child, which brings his puppet to life, the original version is rather, harsh.

Pinocchio is essentially a brat, making Gepettos life a miserable one, he really should have used Pinocchio for kindling. In fact, Pinocchio goes as far as to get Gepetto arrested for false child abuse, though would it even count if it was true, since he is a puppet after all? Along his way of delinquency, he murders a talking cricket... Yep, Jiminy Cricket. However, the same cricket comes back as a ghost (yeah, I know right), warning Pinocchio to change to errors of his ways, but of course he ignores the ghost of the cricket. Even though he continues to make Gepettos life a misery, he is turned into a real boy anyway! Happy Ending?
