88. Chapter 88 : Starting A Family

Calum's POV

We were allowed to take the puppies home with us. They had yipped with excitement when they saw us. Helen and I both smiled widely. We had to fill out a couple more papers and then we were on our way. We both carried two in our arms as they licked our faces.

"They're so cute," Helen smiled.

"Look, it's your new home, permanently," I told the puppies as if they understood. Helen managed to unlock the door and we stepped inside before setting the puppies down who ran around but began slipping.

"Calum we can't keep them all. Two maybe, but not all of them," She said.

"What are we going to do with the rest of them?" I asked.

"Maybe Adin can take them, or Aero and Matty," She replied. "I'll call them up to see if they want a dog."

I love dogs, I really do, but I never realized how much responsibility it is to take care of them. Especially as puppies. You have to make sure they don't fall off the bed and you have to pick anything small enough for them to swallow. Helen and I spent our morning looking after them and playing with them.

I went into the kitchen where Helen was aggressively drinking water. She slammed the bottle on the island and took in several deep breaths.

"Now I remember why my dad didn't let me take a second dog home when we rescued Billie," She gasped. "They're such a hassle!"

I chuckled slightly but took the bottle form the counter top and drank the rest of the cold water. I rested my chin on Helen's head. She patted my cheek before turning to me and giving me a quick peck.

I lifted her onto the island and began kissing her passionately. My hand slipped under her shirt but my lips never left hers. I threw her shirt off as she began pulling mine off as well.

I felt her fingers slowly move down to my arms. She wrapped her legs around my waist. Suddenly the door bell rang. We both stopped and broke apart.

"That's probably Matty and Aero," She said.

We both put our shirts on before Helen opened the front door.

"Lennie!" Aero and Matty exclaimed.

"Hey guys," Helen greeted.

"Hello Calum," Matty said.

I gave a small wave and smile.

There was a collection of small barks and the sound of nails dragging along the wooden floorboards. We all turned to see a mini puppy stamped. They were all so cute but I picked up my favorite puppy. He was small and his hair was fluffy. He seemed to like me.

Aero and Matty also picked up a puppy of their own.

"They're adorable!" Matty exclaimed.

"Right! That's what I said," Helen added.

"Where did you find them?" Aero asked.

"Calum and I went to an abandoned house and found these little guys and his mother," Helen explained.

"Where's the mom?" Aero asked.

"She..she didn't make it," She replied.

"What happened to her?" Matty persisted.

"She had serious heartworm disease so the doctor said it was best to put her down," I explained.

"Damn, that sucks," Matty said.

I nodded and looked over to Helen who was only staring down at the puppy in front of her. I rested my hand on her thigh. She jumped a little but when she looked at me her eyes softened. I smiled slightly at her and she nodded.

"Are you okay?" Aero asked.

"Yea," Helen quickly wiped a tear. "It's just the whole putting Reyna down really got to me."

"She was in immense pain, remember? To vet said she wouldn't make it through even if we did chose the medication," I said.

"I know Calum," She added. "But still."

Aero cleared his throat. Helen and I looked at him. "Is this a bad time?"

"No," Helen said quickly. "So do you like them? Cause we're giving away two."

"What about the other two?" Matty asked.

"We'll keep them," I said.

Aero nodded, "Starting a family, I see."

I wrapped my arms around Helen. I looked at her in the bathroom mirror. She turned to me and smiled slightly.

"I love you Calum Thomas Hood."

"I love you too," I said.

She gave me a quick kiss before untangling herself from my arms and walking back to the room. I followed her and turned off the lights behind me. I climbed into bed next to her.

"I heard there was going to be a meteor shower tonight," She said.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yup, want to go see?" She asked.

I jumped out of bed and went to the glass door before opening it. The fresh air came in contact with my skin. Goosebumps rose on my arms as Helen's hands brushed up against my bare back.

We both stared at the sky. It was sprinkled with various stars that seemed impossible to count. The moon light danced on her skin. Her bright eyes searched the sky.

I kissed her cheek before turning my attention back to the sky. After minutes passed and nothing happened, I looked at the sandy shore. Waves crashed upon each other. The sea foam washed upon the sand.

"Cal," She breathed.

I looked up and saw the sudden flashes of light run across the night sky. Dozens at a time, shot themselves amongst the stars.  They disappeared just as fast as they appeared. I stood there, amazed of the beauty of the universe.

"It's beautiful," She said.

I nodded in agreement.

"It's crazy to think that even stars have a life span. They're born in a nebula and they just shine and grow until their life span comes to an  end and they die, they explode. Everything has some sort of life and it's amazing to think that even the universe provides life-the stars," She said.

"I love it when you speak science," I chuckled.

She laughed, "Nothing wrong with a girl having a brain, right?"

"I love you because you're so smart," I noted.

We looked up to see the last of the meteors pass by. She sighed.

"Every time I look up at the sky," I started. "I think of you. Your name is written in the stars and that's forever."

"You're something special."

I kissed her.

I'll never be able to look at the stars without thinking of her. She's there forever.
