5. Chapter 5 : Calming The Female Lion

Luke's POV

"I'm actually considering to take a few shots of tequila then some painkillers," Helen said.

"Helen the pain is getting to your head. How did Dad deal with you when you were like this?" I asked.

"He gave me medicine, got me chocolate, bought me ice cream and let me miss as many days of school as I wanted," She replied.

I huffed, "Well you're not going to take the shots of tequila. You can miss days of school, just ask Mum."

"I know," She replied and groaned.

I crossed my arm across my chest and I held my phone up to my ear.

"Do you want to talk to Calum?" I asked.

"Meh," She replied.

"Did you two get in a fight?" I asked.

"No, he hasn't talked to me in nearly a week," She replied.

"Yea, we don't really have time, traveling and all," I said.

"Mhmm."

"Hey, I have to go," I said.

"No," She groaned.

"Sorry, Helen but I gotta discuss something with our management. We've been talking for nearly an hour. I'll call you later, maybe."

"Fine," She mumbled.

"Alright, bye Helen."

"Bye Luke. Love you," She said softly.

"Love you too Helen."

I hung up and went to where the crew was meeting.

I ran into Calum.

"Hey," He said.

"What's up?"

"Have you talked to Helen recently?" He asked.

"Just got off the phone with her," I replied.

"Is she okay?" He asked.

"Call her and figure that out yourself. She hurting," I replied.

He dropped his gaze and went into the room I was just in.

I turned my attention to the conversation Ashton was having, "So what I was thinking is a black circle, with 5 tally marks and then the letter SOS next to it. So it will be 5sos," He drew his idea on a blank sheet of paper.

"I like it," Michael said.

They were coming up with ideas for merch.

I nodded.

"I agree, we'll have his printed on black and on white shirts," Our manager said.

"Great," Ashton stood up.

Calum's POV

Luke told me Helen was in pain.

I haven't spoken to her in a week and I feel incredibly guilty. I know she isn't clingy but I feel bad for not replying to her texts.

I rubbed my temple as I paced back and forth in the room.

The other line rang and rang and rang.

Voice mail.

I tried calling again and she still won't pick up.

I tightly gripped my phone in my hand and sat on the bed.

I called for the third time and she finally picked up.

Helen's POV

I heard my phone ringing, but I was downstairs and wasn't about to race up to see who's calling.

They can call again.

I raised the glass of water to my lips and felt the thick capsules going down my throat.

Before going back up I grabbed a bucket of Cookies n' Cream ice cream and a spoon.

I felt like someone was pressing on my uterus

I sneezed and my ovaries threw up whatever they were holding for the last month.

"Ugh," I groaned.

My cramps were getting worse.

I entered my room just as my phone rang for the third time.

"Who the fuck is calling?" I asked myself and picked up my phone.

I answered it not bothering to check the caller ID.

"What?" I answered slightly annoyed.

"Hey babe," Calum said. "Why weren't you answering? I was getting worried."

"I was downstairs," I replied.

"Sorry I haven't called you, I've been busy," He said softly.

"Yea, I get it."

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm perfectly fine Calum!" I spoke up.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" He asked.

"Nothing dammit!" I replied and hung up before throwing my phone on my bed.

I crawled under the covers, opened my bucket of ice cream and watched The 1975 performances on my TV from YouTube. God, I hate being on my period.

Calum's POV

I don't want to say she's acting like a bitch.

But Helen is acting like a straight up bitch.

Luke walked in.

"What happened?" He asked.

"She hung up when I asked what was wrong with her," I replied. "Any explanation?"

"She's on her period," Luke said plainly.

"That explains a lot."

"Yea, she gets very emotional and has a variety of mood swings. Just be nice to her and don't question her too much," Luke said. "Also don't piss her off."

"How do you know?" I asked.

"I had to deal with her for three months, I know how she is. She can be aggressive but if you do things right, she'll be nice to you. Like a female lion!" Luke exclaimed.

"I don't feel very secure trying to calm her down when she's like this," I frowned.

Luke laughed, "Well if you ever marry her, I don't know how you're gonna do it. Good luck."

He left.

I took a deep breath and called her again.

She answered on the second ring.

"Hello," She mumbled.

"Hey sweetheart, sorry for questioning you so much when I talked to you," I apologized.

"It's fine Calum. It's that time of the month again so everything and everyone annoys me. Sorry for treating you like crap, my cramps are killing me right now." She said.

"I'm sorry to hear that baby, I can't say I feel your pain because I'm not a girl."

She laughed slightly and I thanked god because that meant I was doing things right.

Now to keep it that way.

"So how's your day so far?" I asked.

"It's horrible Calum! I woke up with cramps and I've been groaning in pain all day. Just took some pills though, so I should be okay. Why can't Mother Nature send me a text saying 'Congrats! You're not pregnant!' But no, she had to be a bitch and give me immense pain and random mood swings."

"Life isn't fair," I agreed.

"I wish you were here to cuddle with me. I miss you," She whined.

There was the Helen I could handle.

I smiled to myself, "I wish I were with you too babe."

"George is so hot," I hear her mumble.

"What?" I asked.

"What?"

"What did you just say?" I persisted.

"Nothing," She replied.

"You just said that George was hot. Who's George?" I pushed.

"George Daniel, drummer of The 1975," She replied.

"I see you're into drummers," I huffed.

I heard her giggle, "No, George is just a little special. I like bassists."

"Well, you know I play the bass in a band," I said playing along.

"Oh damn."

I laughed.

"You're so cute babe."

"Oh stop, I'm blushing!" She squealed.

I smiled. "I miss seeing your beautiful face."

"I miss seeing you too Calum. What show are you gonna play next?" She asked.

"Birmingham Institute," I replied.

"Are you excited?"

"Yea. It's an exciting life babe."

"Okay, Cal. I'm getting sleepy, I'll call you when I wake up," She said.

"Alright, sweetheart, take care and hopefully you feel better."

"Thanks Hun."

"Love you darling."

"Love you too Cal."
