Killing your darling

A poem about stress and depression, about coaching.

1. Killing your darling

Yesterday I was doing nothing

today I will be doing nothing

I didn’t finish yesterday

Hey, I will do it my way

‘cause I met a life coach

who taught me another approach

There’s plenty of nothing around us

people walk by without any fuss

I don’t mind doing it for them

kissing the present again

I do it for nothing

and in return I get that swing

I was running, I was stressed

out of rhythm and depressed

Doing five things in one minute

my soul and body had to quit

You’ve got to kill your darling I guess

my coach said brightly nevertheless

But John is as calm as can be

well, I’m the problem you see

Your darling is not him

It’s your polite inner pilgrim
