It was mid-day, around 5:00 p.m. The place was exactly what a college bar would look like--casual, worn, and welcoming. I was sitting down in a beige colored stool that was warm.
"What can I get you?" the bartender asked me.
"What?" I was confused who was talking since I was digging through my purse, "Oh! A beer please. Whatever's on tap."
He poured me a beer and then set the pint on the bar in front of me. I took a sip of it but it tasted nasty, so I spit it back in the cup.
"You alright down there?" I heard another voice.
I turned toward the voice. Three stools down from my seat was a man. A beautiful man. He had messy, dirty-blonde hair and ice-blue, Siberian husky eyes.
"I've been in Europe for two years. The beer's better there." I told him.
"Where is Europe?" he asked me. I could tell he wanted to keep the conversation going, and I was alright with that.
"Finland." I replied.
He smiled and his eyes brightened.
"I spent a few nights in Reyjavik on my way to Amsterdam. There was this awesome rave near the harbor. It went on for days." he told me.
"So, um... what are you drinking?" I asked him.
"A scotch," he told me, "Want one?" I nodded and he signaled the bartender.
"I was really depressed to come back after Amsterdam." he told me.
"Now, what's you name?" I asked him.
"Oh, Ezra!" he exclaimed, "Now, what's yours?"
"Aria!" I replied, "And go ahead and tell me about it. I cried the entire time we let Finland!" We both laughed for a little while.
The bartender set up a round of drinks. I sipped my scotch and enjoyed the warm feeling I got. It reminded me of the scotch I got from Finland. There was this great bar called the Duck. Everyone was dressed in plaid aprons and the ladies were dressed in braids. Alison once went to Finland, it actually made me upset whenever we came.
"You keep staring at the paper of the missing girl," he told me, "I think her name was Alison. Was she your friend?"
"Yeah, we were best friends. We were best friends with three other girls. Spencer, Emily, and Hanna!" I told him with a sad look on my face.
"So... do you go to Hollis?" said Aria.
"I just graduated. I'm about to start my first teaching job." Ezra replied, "What's your major?" I then realized that he thought that I was in college, and since he was pretty I just rolled with it.
"I'm leaning toward English." he told me.
"That's what I'm teaching!" he said cheerfully.
The bartender came over and refilled our glasses and we both took a sip. We nudged a bit closer to each other.
I looked into his eyes some more and they kept getting bluer and bluer by the second.
Moments later I found ourselves in the Snookers Bar restroom. Ezra hoisted me onto the sink and I wrapped my legs around his waist. I could taste the scotch on his lips. We kissed slowly and lightly.
Our bodies pressed against each other. I accidentally leaned back and turned on the water from the faucet. We both laughed. Then our lips found each other again. He pulled away from me and looked at me for a little bit--he studied me. Then I leaned in and kissed him some more.
Ezra seemed to be a dream come true.
