I turn the key in my car and here the wonderful sound of my engine. I love having my own car, in a way it's more freedom. I could run off whenever I want, just to get away. But I'd never had the guts to actually do it.
I check my phone and see it's only 7:00. Class doesn't start until 8:00. I realize a measly price of toast won't do it for my breakfast so I decide to stop by my towns local coffee shop.
lock my car and walk across the street until I reach the shop. As I open the doors to the small place the warm air and smell of fresh coffee hits me. There's something I really love about coffee shops. The way there so quiet. It's easy to think, and thinking is something I do best.
"Clara?" I here the deep voice of the clerk say. I quickly look in the direction of the voice and realize it's my friend Eli.
"Hey Eli" I say with a half smile
"Hey Clara bear, watcha doin here?" He asks
Eli is my best friend. We've been friends since as long as I remember. Our parents went to college together and I guess friendship runs in the family because I don't know what I would do without Eli. He'a the best friend I could ask for.
Eli's dad died when he was young so he never really had a father figure. He had to be the man of the house. That's why he works part time at this coffee shop.
"Hey Eli, I'm just picking up some breakfast before school I reply."
"Let me guess, the works with hash browns and wear toast, oh and an iced chai latte?"
"You got me" I say playfully with a half smile "And let ME guess, that will be 10.50?" I reply know I'm right
"Right-o" he reply as I hand him the money, he gives me my change and heads to the kitchen. I wait a few minutes until he comes back out.
"Hey my shift is over in about 10 do you think I could join you?" He asks
"Ew no!" I reply sarcastically. Knowing I'm joking he chuckles and pulls up a chair to the table I was currently sitting at.
"So did you here about what we're doing in English today?" He asks with a shimmer of excitement in his eye.
"Nope. Why? What are we doing?"
"It's called the white rose project." He says with a smirk
"It sounds stupid." I reply
"Maybe" he continues "or maybe it's not"
