I was wearing a faint smile as I walk through the hallway of our school building. I just finished junior and now is my first day of senior high school.
As I walk, I can see a lot of new faces. I wish I could be friends with them, but how? I can’t bond with them anytime they want and that would again surely make them get bore on me. Maybe I really prefer to be alone for the rest of my life.
I found my room at last. I walked in and seated my self to the last line of the third row near the window. I will be more comfortable to sit there.
“Pssst… Hey,” I heard someone whispering loudly from the table next beside me. When I turned to look at her, she was looking at me if I get it clear. Her eyes were greenish and her golden brown hair was tied behind her neck. “I’m new here, are you too?” I heard her say in a British accent. I just gave her a look and then I realized it was me who she was talking to.
I suddenly straighten up and smiled at her. “Uh…hi, welcome, uhm…actually I’m not new here.” I answered trying to be jolly.
“Oh,” she suddenly looked surprised and I remained my smile as I raise my eyebrows as an expression. “I just thought…” she quickly forced a smile, “Never mind, so uh, names Agnes, Agnes Abbey.” She offered me her hand for a shake. I stared at her for a moment, it was like, I can feel something different towards her, and however, I still felt very happy for her trying to be friends with me. I wish she will be different from the others.
I accepted her hand, “I’m Samantha Roberts.”
“Nice name. I’m from England, my parents sent me here because… it’s what they want.”
“So, how’s your first day here?”
She looked away then back to me, “I don’t know, I’ve already been here before actually, and I still feel the same.”
I shrugged and arched my lips then laughed. “I hope you’ll enjoy your stay here,” I said.
She didn’t answer but just smiled. Because I wanted to have more conversation with her, I took a deep breath and spoke, “so, you’re from England, that’s cool. Though I still haven’t been there, I loved your country’s myths. I used to read British myths and legends.”
She widened her eyes with surprise, “do you? We’re just the same.”
I smiled, “and the castles too,” I added.
“Well, you should come with me if I’m going to visit my home.”
My smile suddenly faded. I shouldn’t depart from my mother.
“It’s just that, I don’t think so my mother will allow that. You know, it’s what parents do to protect their sons or daughters.”
“She also can come.”
I chuckled, “yeah, I guess I’m used to be always near her.”
“Oh, you big brat,” she said then laughed.
So, this Agnes Abbey really seems so different from others that I met. She was only full of stories when we are together and so was I.
The first day in school ended and for the very first time I am walking home with someone, its Agnes you know. We both were alone walking down the muddied street having fun together. I really felt we were so close together as if we already knew each other for a very long time. But as we walk down, I heard her scream terribly. I quickly glance at where she was and saw her standing with horror on her face as she covered her mouth looking down the road.
“What were you doing there?” I said as I come nearer her to see what she was looking at.
“No, don’t come here,” she warned but I already reached her and looked down. I can smell blood and I was late to refuse because I already saw a bloody human body. It was like he was attacked by a wild animal that his face even can’t be recognized after being completely torn. I covered my mouth and suddenly felt the thirst of blood. No, I shouldn’t. I turned my back as I felt my veins on my skin again, as well as my fangs. Agnes should not see this; I don’t want to lose her.
“Are you alright?” I heard her voice echo behind me.
“Stay there, don’t come right here.” I warned but I still heard her approach me so I suddenly runaway to the fastest speed that I can.
*To remind you guys, Vampires can run faster than a race car, they most likely just disappear in the wind. Well, it’s according to the myth.*
I don’t know what to think but I think I gave her a reason to suspect me of something. I stopped far enough to that corpse. I found myself on the forest where I used to play alone when I was 7. I sat down under a tree and there I breathed air. After few minutes, I felt like I’m back to normal again. I leaned my back on the tree and relaxed my body. What should I do? I left Agnes there, what is she thinking now? And…what happened to that corpse?
“Look who’s here.” A male voice startled me a few paces to my left. Oh no! Please tell me he didn’t see that. I didn’t notice my eyes widen as I stare at his. He was standing with his hands in his pants’ pocket. A faint smile was drawn on his face. “Oh, did I startle you?”
“What do you think,” I breathed.
He pulled his hands out his pocket and shrugged. Then he started to slowly walk towards me that made me feel nervous. “What were you doing here? I think something’s wrong with you…” he frowned as he bent his right knee on the ground and faced me, his other knee was up where he rests his left hand, “…sick?” he asked.
I just stared at his fire colored eyes. They’re like something different. It’s like—
“I won’t bite you.” He said.
“Of course you won’t. Wh-who are you? What are you doing here?”
“So, you didn’t see me back our school,” he said then stood up and offered me his hand. I first stared at it then back to his face and then soon held it. As soon as I stood up, I loosed my hand from his grip. “I’m Benedict Collin. We’re classmates, maybe you didn’t just notice me because you were busy chatting with you friend,” he arched his lips, “I was about to wink at you.”
I shook my head. “So, how long were you looking at me?” I asked, my hands on my hips.
He chuckled, “you think I like you that much? I just happed to see you here sitting as if you were thinking deeply and then it came to my mind that I should interrupt you.”
“Oh please don’t do that again.” I frowned.
“Sorry,” he squeezed his lips. I started to think, I like his lips. I think its redness was natural. It’s perfectly lined. I’m not saying that I have a big mouth but I think his is smaller than mine. It’s kissable—
“What were you thinking back then?” he asked.
I frowned, “uh…something that doesn’t concern you.”
He opened his arms, “well then, Where’s your house, maybe I could stop there sometime.”
No, he looks true to his words and he shouldn’t come to our house, no one should. It’s not just that I am hiding something but, our house is not what people got used to. It’s dark in there. “I…still don’t know you. Maybe I could tell you later if I know you better.”
“Well, trust me, I won’t hurt you.”
Maybe he was telling the truth but… what is wrong with me or them, why do I kept on feeling something different to those people I’ve met today, he’s the second actually.
“So, let’s meet tomorrow again. Start walking, lady.”
I smiled, “You go on first.”
He frowned as he shook his head. He opened his arms and awkwardly smiled, “You’re weird.” Then he first walk backwards and soon turned his back.
I followed him with my eyes. That’s a little bit attracting. I think he was hot. He maybe not that muscled lad but I like him. My smile faded, I hope he really didn’t see anything.
“Sam!” someone snapped behind as I quickly looked back. It’s Agnes.
“A-agnes.” I sighed. “I—m sorry I left you back there—”
“Never mind ‘bout that,” she immediately approached me and held both my hand as if knowing something. After few seconds she slowly looked up my eyes. She looks so serious, “What was your complete name again?”
“Tell me where you got that name.”
I slotted my eyes as I observed her face, “Why are you asking?”
“You’re not a Roberts; you’re the daughter of Jovin Sacre. You’re the last Vampire.”
I felt like I can hardly breathe. Am I hearing something real and not just a nightmare? How did she know that? Maybe she was an expert and noticed how I disappeared back when we saw the corpse. I—I can’t think. I really can’t believe and no one should know about this.
“I don’t know what you’re saying…” my lips quivered as I loosed my hand from hers then turned my back, “go away, I thought you’re my friend.”
She held my hand then pulled me back to face her, “I am your friend Samantha, and I came here to find you. I came here to help you—”
“And how would you do that?! You’re only a human!” I suddenly said with heave on my words. I can see her eyes grow wider in surprise.
