I pushed the doorbell at our door and I’m really getting a little bit nervous. I am late and it’s already dark. Surely my mother’s getting worried. Behind me was Agnes. She was also wondering when no one’s opening the door after sounding the bell many times. We looked at each other then I again attempted to sound the bell—
“Sam,” someone called and we both looked back. Its mom, she was looking at me and next was to Agnes.
The following minutes, we were now inside the house sitting on the couch. Beside me was Agnes and in front was my mom. We were facing each other awkwardly.
“So, you didn’t tell me you’ll be having a visitor today.” Mom forced a smile.
“I’m Agnes Abbey and I know your daughter as a vampire.”
Mom’s smile quickly faded and her eyes circled with surprise as she stares at Agnes. “Don’t worry, I’m a friend. I won’t tell anyone if that’s what you want…I’m the daughter of Hemma the witch, and so I was.”
Then again, mom’s more surprised. She couldn't speak.
“It’s okay mom, she told me everything and—”
“A witch! Haven’t I told you what they did to your ancestors?!” she stood up.
“Please sit down miss Roberts. I have many to tell.”
“Get out of my house—”
“No, you’re going to hear me first.”
I looked at mom and nodded a little then she sighed and sat back, “make it quick.”
“During the time of Jovin, the world was filled with wars and evil. People are dying without notice for vampires can make their victims don’t remember they fed on their bloods. There are also these werewolves who have always been an enemy of vampires. They also feed on people but not as clean as what the vampires do. Polices and investigators started to suspect about supernatural beings so they warned the people, however nobody believed them. They started to hunt these suspected beings but all of them just died without knowing why. And there are these witches who didn’t like what was happening in the world. They worked hard to stop it, but it didn’t. They were also slowly dying as they perform some kind of magic which always has payment. But they still failed on every of their plan. These became a conflict between them. Many lives are sacrificed so my grandmother took the side where they should stop their plan. But many still continued the plan. Years have passed and the werewolves invaded the witches. When they found out their plan, they sent a werewolf to act as if he doesn’t like himself. He did a very good play and that, many believed him, and he gave the witches a list on how to kill their kinds. Werewolves also are listed on the list for them not to suspect, however; they were also in a plan on protecting their selves on that curse while the vampires doesn’t have any idea of what’s happening. The curse again became a conflict between the witches. Some says, they can’t trust a werewolf and some believed the player. The six strongest witches started the oration. My mother should be one of them but she refused to join them. Instead, she tried to advise them for that curse they’re going to create was a very strong one that it could take a big exchange but nobody listened to her and the others can’t do anything. The oration took one and a half years then it started to take the lives of every vampire while the werewolves were successful in protecting their selves though there are some who still died. But, Jovin still managed to attack and killed their lord, Gabriel Collin. From here, Jovin died in Rome with Gabriel leaving his four sons. After the spreading of the curse all the witches who contributed on that oration died including the six. Only few witches were left, and only one vampire survived. Werewolves may successfully have escaped the curse but they wanted vengeance for their lord’s death. Right now, witches have become a very great enemy of werewolves and they were now also searching for the last vampire to prevent her from spreading again her kind.” She glanced at me.
I arched my eyebrows, where did I hear that name again, the Collin one.
“That’s why I came here Sam, though my mother forbids me. I came here to protect the last vampire.”
“Your mother did not know you came here?” Mom asked getting more curious. “Why?”
“I studied the situation very carefully. For us to stop sacrificing others I decided to find the Sacre here for I know that she will only be the one who can kill the werewolves aside from us.”
“You were saying my daughter should sacrifice herself! She’s not like Jovin and Alyne. She doesn’t feed on people!”
“It’s not her life. It depends on how she will fight the werewolves. Please, this is to save the world.” She turned to me.
I bit my lower lip, “I’m a vampire I should also be the one to die.”
Her face smoothed. She gulped and kept quiet for a while. I stood up for I don’t want to shed tears in front of them—
“You have a good heart. Olive’s right. You’re a clean vampire. I know you wanted to be a human and I can help you with that but you still have to do the werewolves killing. They were more brutal than vampires and it would create a great destruction to the world, Sam.” She sounds like begging. But I heard a line which caught my interest. Did she just say I can be human? Of course I heard her say that. I faced them again.
“While doing the quest, I don’t want to ruin what I started.” It is my study what I meant. “And you must keep your promise that…that I will be a normal person.”
“I will, I promise” she smiled.
I glanced at mom with a very happy smile. I will become a human soon. I am going to live happily and normally, and I won’t have many excuses. Oh, could you imagine how happy I was? But looking at mom, she was only forcing a smile. I glanced at Agnes with a sigh, “so what are we going to do?”
“Uh…enjoy your stay here because were soon going to round Europe.” And then, she immediately squeezed her lips as if she’s regretting on saying those words.
“What? You’re going to take her away from me?” Mom stood up.
“I’m sorry, it should be.”
Mom held her forehead with confusion, “Why won’t she just wait for them here?”
“They’re here…but not all of them. Many were still lurking around Europe.” She turned to me, “but you must not give them any clue that you were a vampire so you could get out from this country without them knowing.”
“Why won’t I just kill them? Maybe they’re going to create commotion here on finding me.”
“Of course you will. And you should plan it carefully. I will be here to advice and protect you.” She stood up and held my hand.
I glanced at my mother and she looked very upset, her hands were on her hips. She shook her head looking at me, “you should not fail. I’m leaving it all to you, Agnes. But if you’ll need me, just tell me. I’m a doctor so there maybe some that I can help you with.”
I smiled and hugged her. “Thank you so much…I’ll be human soon, please wait for me.”
I loosed from her and she sniffled as if she’s going to cry but she was just refusing to. We all went quiet—
“So,” Agnes interrupted and drew her jolliness back on her face, “I think Sam forgot to tell you that I will be staying here…in your house,” she said.
“Of course you can,” then she started stepping back and turned to the stairs, “Sam will be showing you your room—oh what am I saying there are only two bedrooms here so—maybe—Sam will take care of it.” She still spoke as if she was about to cry and she didn’t want us to see until she was completely upstairs.
I and Agnes looked at each other, “she’s just getting emotional.” I said and she grinned.
