We walked into the prison, and it was heavily guarded. The men that were kept in this place were crazy, they were all cold blooded killers. I can't even imagine the things that some of them had done to even get into a place like this.
"Right this way ma'am." The guard said. We walked through empty cells.
"Where are all the prisoners?" I asked.
"They are eating, they will be back here in ten minutes." He said just pushing forward. We finally got to the end of the hallway, and went through another door. It was another long hallways, and we were heading right for the door at the end of it. The man opened the door for me, and when I looked into it Kade was sitting down at a table by himself. The man closed the door behind me, and I started to walk up with the food.
"Why the hell are you do god damn late?" He asked. I could tell eh was angry, and he might not be able to do anything about it here, but when we got home he would. I just took a deep breath, and sat down at the table across from him.
"There was an incident at the store." I said pulling the food out of the bag, and placing it in front of him.
"What kind of incident?" He asked raising his eyebrow.
"With that Craig guy, it's nothing." I said.
"What's wrong with your shoulder?" He asked looking over at it.
"Oh he grabbed me, but I am fine, Danny was there, and he handled it." I said.
"I am not hungry anymore." He said looking away from me and the table.
"Don't be like that." I said still pulling food out of the bag. He jumped up, and grabbed my wrist, and pushed it back towards me aggressively.
"Are you fucking Deaf, I said I am not hungry. Get your shit, and go home." He said standing up putting all the food back into the bag, and handing it to me.
I just nodded, and walked back to the door that I once came in from. The guard was still sitting out there waiting for me to be done.
"Done so soon?" He asked.
"He wasn't feeling well." I said trying not to make eye contact.
We made our way to the door at the end of the hallway, and before he opened it I could hear all the inmates talking amongst each other.
We walked through the door, and I could hear men cat calling me, and whistling at me. Asking the officers if they would let me in their cell for a couple minutes. Every single cell that I went by had a set of arms reaching out to grab me. I just kept on walking. We got to the end of the cells, and on the second last cell there was no arms sticking out trying to grab me, or get my attention.
I stopped, and turned to look in it. There was a man sitting in there, he was sitting on his bed drawing, or writing something. I couldn't quite tell what it was.
"Can I get you something sweetheart?" He asked not looking up from his paper to pay any attention to me.
I couldn't find it in me to reply to him. He gave a little laugh, and then looked up at me. He hesitated for a second, and then got up form his bed, and started to walk over to me. The closer he got I could see him, and his face. He had shaggy blonde hair, his skin was almost flawless except for a scar that he can on his eyebrow, is wasn't big or noticeable, you really had to look at him to see it. He had these big brown eyes that were staring at me, watching every move I made.
"Why are you here?' He asked hanging his hands through that bar trying to look casual.
"I came to see my boyfriend." I said, I must of looked white as a ghost.
"Which one of these fine gentlemen is lucky enough to have a girl like you?' He asked looking out at all the inmates.
"Hes a guard here." I said gaining a little more confidence.
"Did he do that to your shoulder, you know guards here tend to have quite the temper." He said looking down at my shoulder.
"No." I said. Something about that man, just made me want to get to know him more.
"Visiting hours." Another guard yelled from the other end of the hallway.
"We really need to get going miss." The guard behind me said.
"I want to set up visiting time with this man." I said not taking my eyes from him. He was watching me every second of the conversation.
"With this man?" He asked laughing to himself a little bit.
"Yes." I said acting confident with my answer.
He just shook his head, and started to walk me back down the end of the hallway where Kade was.
We stopped at one of the door before the end, and walked in it. There was one table in it sitting in the very center of the room. The man wasn't in there yet, but two guards walked in. One sitting on my side, and the other on the side where I assumed he would be coming in.
Minutes later, he walked in with a guard. They kept his hand cuffs on, and sat him down in the chair that was right across from me. He smirked at me. There was something about that smirk that drove me crazy.
"What is your name sweetheart?" He asked sitting up more proper in his chair.
"Sam. What's yours?" I asked.
"Heath. Now why would a pretty little thing like you want to talk to a bad man like me for?" He asked sliding his chair up closer to the table.
"Curiosity I guess." I said not sure if that is actually what it was.
"They say curiosity killed the cat." He said.
"If you were going to do anything you would have done it already. You don't strike me as a planning guy, you strike me as an attack first type person." I said. He just let out a little laugh.
"Is that so?" He said,. and then lunged over the table. Not far enough to even come close to me, but enough to make me jump. "You seem a little jumpy." He said laughing.
"It's not every day I sit down across from a table with a convected felon on death row. What does a man like you have to do to get in a place like this?" I asked looking around the room.
"Supposedly kill three men." He said leaning back in his chair, and stretching.
"Supposedly?' I asked raising an eyebrow.
"According to the evidence that they found in my house. my finger prints, my DNA, the murder weapon. I am guilty in the eyes of the United States Law." He said.
The guard behind him was clenching his fists, I could tell this was making him angry.
"So Heath you draw?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"Yah, something I have always done. Maybe if you are lucky the next time I see you, I will draw you a picture." He said looking up at me.
Now that I was looking at him, he didn't look like a killer, he didn't even seem like one. His eyes were sweet, and sensitive, they made you want to trust him. His smile was charming, it could make any girl melt, and he just flat out knew how to talk to the ladies.
"I take it your swollen face wasn't from the same thing as your shoulder. You tried to hide your face, but not your shoulder." He said. He knew he was right, and I did to, I could deny it all I want, but he would know the truth.
"What are you suggesting?" I asked.
"I think you know very well what I am suggesting." He said.
"Visiting time is up." The guard behind me said placing his hand on my shoulder. I jumped with pain.
"Next time you see me I will give you that picture." He said smiling standing up with the other guard.
"What makes you think I am coming back here again?" I asked smirking.
"Curiosity I guess." He said, and then was hauled out of the room.
