20. Chapter 20: The Address

I was holding Daz's hand like it was the one thing holding me to the earth. I was trembling in anticipation and fear. I had never been more nervous.

"You okay?" Daz asked me.

"I'm afraid." I admitted.

"You'll be fine, I'm here." I felt re-assured, then I heard footsteps behind me, I turned around to be faced with the cause of all my anxiety.

***Earlier that day***

Me and Daz were walking again, hand in hand, chatting about anything and everything we could. From world peace to weather or not we like marmite. That was when Daz's phone buzzed in his pocket, he grimaced when he read the text.

"Something wrong?" I asked.

"We need to make a quick pit stop." He cringed, I creased my brow, confused.

"I don't follow." I admitted.

"Simon texted, he wants to meet." Daz told me. I drew a harsh breath, immediately worried. Simon and Daz didn't have a great track record, neither did Simon and me in fact. I didn't want Daz going alone.

"I'm coming with you." I said firmly.

"No, it's not the sort of thing I want you involved in." He denied.

"It's not the sort of thing I want you involved in either, so I guess neither of us get our way." I argued.

"Nina..."

"I'm coming, I can handle it." I assured him, he let out a sigh.

"You don't leave my side." He instructed, I nodded, trying to seem mature. Inside I felt a childish joy, he was letting me come, this was a huge break-through in our trust issues. My mind was doing somersaults.

It was only when we were walking down the alleyway that I realized what my break-through had got me into. All my excitement switched smoothly over to fear. I suddenly felt very un-ready, but it was too late now. As we waited for Simon I tried to keep calm, fear was the one thing I couldn't show when he arrived.

"You brought your girl." Simon commented, kick starting the conversation.

"Why did you want to meet Simon?" Daz got to the point, putting on his emotionless voice that sent shivers down my spine, he squeezed my hand, sensing my anxious mood.

"I got the address." He grinned. His grin was that of a Cheshire cat, fake and cheesy, with a slight element of bittersweet pleasure. It reminded me a bit of the way Jade sometimes smiled at me.

"Good, may I have it?" Daz was being more civil than he had been with Greg, he knew his audience, I realized.

"Did you bring your payment?" Simon asked. Daz rummaged inside his pocket and pulled out a picture of a girl, I didn't get a good look at it before it was handed over to Simon. Simon examined it for a second, before passing over a piece of paper with an address inscribed on it.

"Are we done here?" Daz asked.

"Just because there is a lady present, you may leave." Simon responded, ushering us away.

"What was that picture about?" I whispered to Daz as we left.

"My torture." Daz replied.

"I'm confused."

"It's a long story, just drop this one shadow" he told me. So I did as I was told, overcome with relief for our safety and how well the meet up had gone.
