I woke up feeling perfectly rested the next day, the morning sunlight filtering through the trees onto my body. I pushed my self up into a sitting position, and gazed around the forest, looking for any sign of the wolves. Finding no traces, I prayed a tiny prayer that I was still living and not extremely hurt. The bite on my arm had healed overnight, the deep teeth marks covered by new looking pink skin. I gulped, thinking of how this would have never had happened to me if mother had never had died.
I pushed myself up until I was standing, wobbly but balanced enough to stand and walk.
Out in the distance I heard a scream, and I started to run forwards it. It was my father's voice. He had come to rescue me.
"Father! I'm okay!" I screamed as loud as I could, until I stumbled over a branch on the ground. I fell to the moist forest floor, my face squished against it.
"Father," I whispered, before the world went dark and I was gone from the rest of the world again.
I woke up in our house, wrapped in many layers of blankets.
"Skylar," my father breathed. He was kneeling next to me, squeezing my hand. Maybe his touch was what brought me back from the darkness.
"Dad," I said, going into his harms. He smelled like expensive cologne and the woods.
"You.. you were all cut up when I found you," he said, kissing my head. "But you're all healed up now," he said, looking into my eyes.
"How did you get that far into the woods?" He asked, rubbing my hands to warm them.
"I.. I really don't know. I just got lost, I suppose." I lied, knowing that the real reason I had went into the forest was to be alone and think about my mother.
"Well, I'm just happy I found you before anything serious happened," Father gave me a tiny, optimistic smile.
"Yeah." I said, then as he got up and began to walk away, I called after him, "Can I have my phone?" Father nodded, then started to go to the stairs.
My phone was basically blown up- I had 6 new messages from Ashly, 9 messages from Cassi, and of course, 3 missed calls and 16 new messages from Jackson. He was my only true friend, Ash and Cass were too... boy-crazy. I guess that's the nicest way I could put it. They always had to have a guy by their side, even if their one of the stupidest jocks in the school. Jackson and I... how could I explain it? We have this bond, like we can finish each other's sentences. We've known each other since we were babies, and I guess we immediately became best friends.
I messaged Ash and Cass back first, saying how I had went camping for a while, and my dad made me keep my phone in the house. They were relived, and sent me pictures of their new boyfriends, who were, of course, ugly.
Jackson, on the other hand, I knew if I didn't tell him the truth now, it would back fire on me. So being a great person and all, I jut sent him a simple message.
Me: meet me @ the café in half hour
