After school I drove home alone, thoughts of Jackson overwhelming my brain. I got out of the truck, unlocked the door, realizing the house was empty. Father must've had a surgery or something to go do. I winced, putting a hand to my forehead, and closed my eyes, and just stood there for a few minutes. I had gotten a killer headache, probably from fighting with Sera. She was such a brat. She had to have everything her way or she made a fucking tantrum and didn't care who saw.
I threw my book bag on the floor by the stairs, and dropped the keys on the coffee table, and opened the back doors, breathing in the warm spring air. It was getting warmer and warmer everyday, ever since the day I had driven Jackson home.
I walked outside, and bit my lip. I pulled my phone out, and texted Father so he would know that I was safe. As long as I was a wolf nothing could hurt me.
Me: I went outside, I'll be back soon. 😉 😇 😁
I slid the phone in my back pocket, then pulled it back out again when I had a second thought.
Me: I love you. no matter what. ❤, Sky.
I gave a tiny sigh and continued of the porch, into the woods. This time I knew what was waiting for me. I wouldn't be scared. I had protection from the darkness of the woods.
I started running, my body rushing like water in a waterfall, seeming one with the woods. It was a full moon. The rest of the pack would be here, I thought, looking up. The full moon was just rising, blended into the sky, which was still a light blue.
"Hey, Skylar!" A voice surprised me, and Owen slinked out from behind a tree. "Oh, hey. You scared me." I chuckled, acting like I was carefree, but really I wasn't. If I was going to stay a werewolf I need to use my sharpened senses and quit acting like such a baby. "That was sort of the point," he smirked, walking closer. He had on a fitted grey t-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. I looked at my old ratty clothes, a old t-shirt that was my dad's, torn jeans, and sandals that I hardly wore. Obviously his family was richer. I was still wearing hand-me-downs from my dad. Owen probably got a new closet every weekend.
"I'm not rich," Owen whispered, cocking his head as he would have done when he was a wolf. "Sky, the pack's meeting in the clearing. So we better get going," He nudged me, and I let out a exasperated sigh.
"Fine, you little ass," I squealed, pushing him with both hands.
Owen gave me a offended look, his mouth hanging open. "You little-" He stared, but he was cut off by Sera marching towards us. Her black tanktop showed a little too much cleavage, her high waisted shorts were ripped open in at least ten places, and her tall black boots were muddy and caked with leaves. She looked infuriated, to put it at least.
"Stay away from my man," She growled, sounding more wolf that human, as she grabbed Owen's arm and dragged him into the clearing.
We're just friends, you fucking bitch, I wanted to scream, but I didn't, for the sake of my health. Walking behind them, I smoothed my shirt down and tried to fix my hair. It wouldn't matter anyways, I would be a wolf soon.
Sera, Owen, and the rest of the pack were waiting for me, standing in a sort-of-circle. "Okay, everyone. On three, you're going to let your wolf take over. The moon will be at highest point." Nicole shouted, gesturing to the sky. I winced.
"Get over it. It always fucking hurts," Sera hissed, at everyone, but especially me. She closed her eyes and didn't open them again. Owen took a deep breath and closed his eyes. I noticed everyone else was doing the same, so I inhaled, closed my eyes, and braced for what was to come.
The change was painful, more painful than anything I had ever experienced before.
After it was over we laid on the forest floor and caught our breath, panting heavily. Nicole was looking at me, in her motherly way, and Owen, Gavin, and Sam had already jumped up and started to frolic with each other. Sera gave me a evil look, Travis and Desi were looking at each other, probably having a conversation. Travis had jumped to his feet, then walked slowly out of the circle. He hesitated, then let out a single bark that rang through the empty, silent clearing. Sam stopped, and looked back. His brown eyes were brimmed with emotion, and Travis looked away, at the ground. Sam kept staring, and let out a even louder bark, in reply. Travis seemed to shake his head, then fled back to where Desi waited.
What's up with them? I thought towards Nicole, and she walked closer to me, and shrugged.
There's something between them, though no one really knows. It's their secret, I suppose. Nicole replied.
Oh. I blinked a few times, and looked up at her. Nicole's chocolate eyes had began to sparkle with happiness, and I winced. From my experience with her in past years at school, when Nicole got excited about something she never let go.
Speaking of secrets, what's going on between you and Jackson? I could practically see the sparks between you too. Seriously. Nicole sauntered forwards, and I stepped back.
It's nothing, and if there was something, Sera would have sabotaged it by now, I said, glancing in Sera's direction.
Haha, right. Nothing can hold back love, Sky. When she said that she looked at Gavin.
So, there's something between you and Gavin, huh? I teased, nudging her playfully.
Nicole gave me a cruel smile. Oh, just because you're new here doesn't mean I can't teach you a lesson, she barked, pouncing on me playfully. I squirmed underneath, and snapped at her ear, making sure to miss.
