"Thank you, John." I said, as John opened the door to my office for me. "Nicole, lovely surprise for you to be in my office." I said, seeing Nicole standing by the window. "Yeah, I have something to tell you." She said. "Okay, John, Wes, can you give us a minute? Maybe take Nicole to see some sights around the building?" I said. "Sure." John replied, walking out.
"What do you need to tell me." I said. "You know how you said to come to you if I need anything?" She said. I nodded. She started to hyperventilate. "Nicole, Nicole, hey, sit down." I said, rushing over to her. "Ashley, I hate to do this to you, but, I need a place to stay. My parents kicked me out. I've been living in a motel for the past month and-" "Nicole, calm down. I have room. You can stay with me for as long as you want. I'll pay for food for you, and clothes for Miles. Don't worry. I'm here for you." I said. She smiled. "Thank you so much Ashley. Miles' been asking when we will go home, and I don't know what to tell him. And... I... Didn't know what to do. I don't trust anyone else here but you." She said. "Why don't you take the day off. Pack your stuff from that motel, and I'll text you my address." I said. "Thank you." She said. I hugged her tightly. "I'm here for you." I said.
When Nicole left, I called Ashton. One ring. two ring. Three ring. No answer. I sighed. Typical. He never answers his phone. I mean, what if something happened, and I needed to get a hold of him. Oh, wait, I couldn't because he wouldn't answer his phone. Part of me feels like he's ignoring me. But, also, I'm worried, because this is what happened when he cheated on me when we first started dating. He wouldn't answer his phone, and when he did, it would be for like seconds, and then he would hang up.
I dialed Michael's phone number, hoping for him to answer. "Hello." He said. "Hey Michael. It's Ashley." I said. "Ashley? Why are you calling from you work number?" He asked. "Because I'm working again. I started last week. But because no one would answer their damn phones, no one found out." I said. "Oh, yeah, sorry. We're super busy." He said. "Yeah. I've been hearing that a lot lately." I said. "Is Ashton there? I need to talk to him." I said. "Yeah, hang on." He said.
"Hello." Ashton said. "Hey, it's me, Ashley." I said. "Back at work?" He asked. "Yeah-" "Why didn't you tell me?" He asked. "I would have, if you answered your phone. Which you barely do anymore." I said. "Okay, look, we've been really busy." He said. "Yeah, I know." I snapped. "I'm calling you to tell you, Nicole, my assistant is coming to stay with us. But, because you never answer your phone, or your emails, or your Skype, I don't think you would care." I said. "Babe. I'm sorry for not answering my phone." He said. "Did you get the text about Jackie being seriously sick? Or the one about Nicole walking? Or the video of her saying daddy?" I asked. "No." He said. "Look at them. See how happy she is. I have to go." I said, hanging up.
"So, this is where you live." Nicole said, looking at the house. "Yup. Nothing much, but it's good." I replied, opening the front door. Jackie came running to the door. "Hi Aunt Nik!" She yelled, hugging Nicole. Jackie calls her Aunt Nik, because she knew her for a while now, and I guess she just... likes to call her that. "Oh, mom, Lauren went out with Kyle. She said she will be back later." Jackie said. "Okay, let me get Aunt Nik settled in, and maybe we will go out to eat?" I asked, looking at Nicole. "I don't mind." She said. I nodded.
"So, this is your room." I said, opening the guest room. "Wow. This is bigger than the motel room." She said. I laughed. "Yeah, usually if Ashton and I fight, I usually sleep in here. It's been unused for a few months, it's all yours. I have a crib in the corner, for when Nicole used to sleep in here with me. Use it, all you want. Um, don't be afraid to make yourself at home here. I live with a six year old and a fourteen year old, there's always things flying. Whether it's toys, or clothes. Just, make yourself at home." I said. She smiled, and nodded.
"I really don't know what's wrong with him. I mean, he's been talking, but he doesn't like... Do things the same way anymore." Calum said over the car phone. "He didn't get the videos of Nicole walking, talking, he didn't get the text of Jackie being sick. But yet, you got them. He's just... Worrying me. Because the last time he did this, he cheated on me." I said. "I can assure you, he isn't cheating on you. We've been really busy, but we always find time for our girlfriends. We have at least an hour to ourselves." He said. I sighed. "Calum. What's wrong with dad?" Jackie asked from the backseat. "I don't know. But I'll talk some sense into him." He replied.
"Eat your food." I said to Jackie. She nodded, and ate. My phone started ringing in the middle of dinner. "Excuse me." I said, getting up. I walked outside, and the paparazzi went crazy. "Hey Cal." I said. "I have the answer to why he doesn't answer his phone." He said. "What are you waiting for. Tell me." I said. The paparazzi were getting close, so they can hear the conversation. "When you went to the hospital, it was when you had that fight. He doesn't want to keep hurting you. He's ignoring you, because you went to the hospital because of him." He said. I sighed. "Is he there?" I asked. "Yeah." He replied. "Put him on the phone." I said. I heard them fighting in the background, then a final sigh.
"Hello." Ashton said. "Ashton, talk to me." I said. The paparazzi were practically in my face now, after I said Ashton. I heard him sigh. "Ashton. Please. I am dying without you talking to me. I need you right now." I said. "You went to the hospital because of me. You lost the baby because of me." He said. "Ashton, I went to the hospital, because of stress. I lost the baby, because of stress. Everyone loses a baby, Ash. It's apart of life." I said. The paparazzi had out recorders, recording our conversation. "But, I feel like I did this to you, because I told you to grow up." He said. "You didn't. I promise. And I'm okay now. I'm better." I said. "So, you don't blame me?" He asked. "Of course not. It wasn't your fault. I never blamed you." I said, with a smile. "Okay. And I saw the videos of Nicole. And I did get the text saying Jackie was sick. I sent a card." He said. "So you're the anonymous?" I asked. He laughed. "Yup. You'd be surprised." He said. I smiled. "I have to go. Nicole is calling me over. And these paparazzi are annoying." I said. "Okay, love you." He said. "I love you too. And if you think something is wrong, please, tell me." I said. "I will." He said. I smiled, and hung up.
"So, how's you and Ashton?" Nicole asked, as we sat on the couch. "Better now. We talked it through, and we're good." I replied, handing her coffee. "Thanks." She said. I smiled. "So, why did your mom kick you out?" I asked. "Um, she thought I was hiding something from her, but I wasn't. And when she asked me how Miles is, you know, because of his heart condition, I didn't answer her, because she knows I don't like to talk about it, she decided she had enough, and she kicked me out, along with Miles." She replied. "I'm so sorry. But, I'm here for you. Ashton knows you're here, so don't feel uncomfortable, please." I said. She smiled. "Thank you so much. But, why are those men watching us?" She asked. I laughed. "Those are security. Ashton gave us all two, because my ex, is crazy, and wants to take Jackie, which I won't let him. So, Ashton wants to protect us." I replied. She nodded.
"Mom." Jackie said, walking to the couch. "Yes baby." I said. "When is dad coming home? I miss him." She said. I smiled, and put her on my lap. "Soon baby. I promise." I said. "Does he miss us?" She asked. "Of course he does, why would you ask that." I said. "Molly's sister said she read that dad went out to a club yesterday and went to the hotel drunk. But, Calum said he wasn't drunk." She said. "Honey, dad misses us. I promise. But he especially misses you." I said. She smiled. "Get to bed, okay?" I said. She nodded, and walked back down the hallway.
"She really misses him doesn't she." Nicole said. I nodded. "You have no idea. I mean, from the age of like four to now, she called him her dad, and he treats her like his daughter. I mean, him being gone she's used to. But, him being gone for a whole year... She needs to adjust." I replied. "Yeah, I mean, my best friend, Nick, he was like over everyday when Miles was born. And Miles adjusted to him being there, and his first word, was dada and he pointed to Nick. And Nick, went off to college, so he is always wondering where he is. So, I understand that." She said. I nodded. "I think I'm gonna go to bed." I said. "Yeah, me too." She replied. "Have a good night. Nicole." I said. "You too Ashley. And thanks again." She said. "No problem." I replied, with a smile.
