Christie woke up with a pounding headache. She slowly tried to open her eyes. Her vision was blurry, and she quickly shut them again, because the blur was making her headache worse.
"Oh…my head." she groaned.
"Chris?" Dean asked worriedly, standing up and rushing over to the bed.
"Yeah?" She croaked. She smacked her lips. "God, why am I so thirsty?"
"Here," Dean said, offering her a glass of water. She took it, and held it to her lips, and gulped the water down thirstily.
"Careful, kid. That might make your headache worse."
Christie opened her eyes again, and her vision was normal. "Actually, it helped." She tried to sit up.
"Hey, take it easy!" Dean yelped, then lowered his voice as he noticed her wincing at the sudden noise, "You might have a concussion. Just….lay back down."
Christie sighed, and lay back down, "Where's Sam?"
"Out doing research," Dean rolled his eyes, "the nerd." Chris laughed, then frowned, "What about….Bobby? Did he find anything?"
As if on cue, Dean's phone began to ring. He glanced at it, "Speak of the devil," he muttered, then lifted the phone to his ear, "Yeah?"
"Dean, I found a little bit about mermaids. Turns out, you can kill 'em using-"
"The bone of one of her victims dipped in lamb's blood? Yeah, we know." Dean interrupted.
"Well, did you also know that she goes after young girls? She can bite someone, and then they become a mermaid."
Dean froze, "What?"
"So, I suggest you keep your daughter away from it," Bobby continued.
"Bobby, it's already too late! It got to Chris- It bit her!" There was a pause on the other end of the line.
"Then you better not kill that mermaid." Bobby finally said.
"Why not?" Dean asked.
"Because….you kill that mermaid, then Chris will go insane, and start eatin' people."
"Then just what do you suggest we do, Bobby? Let Ariel go free?"
"No! I'm suggestin' that you capture it. Force it to tell you how to reverse it." Bobby said, "And you better do it fast. 'Cause Chris will have an appetite for men soon, and you could be on the menu. Once she nibbles on someone….there's no gettin' her back." Bobby warned, and hung up. Dean sighed, and lay back on the bed. He glanced over at Chris, who had her locket open and was staring at the picture of her mother sadly. "Chris, I'm sorry, but I just have to know. What happened to your mom?" Dean sighed.
Christie winced, "I- I was seven. She was tucking me into bed, when all of the sudden, the windows shattered, and the door down stairs banged open. She- She told me to hide in the closet, and not come out until she came and got me. Then she went downstairs. A few minutes later, I heard her scream….and I left the closet and went downstairs to look for her…….Her throat was shredded, and a man was standing over her, with blood all over his face. He- he looked at me, and his teeth…..his mouth looked like a shark's. He ran out the door, and I called 911." Christie finished her story, and sunk down into the bed, with a haunted look in her eyes.
Dean stood up, and started pacing the room angrily.
"What did he look like?" he asked. Christie glanced up at him. "He was tall…. blonde, green eyes."
"Did he have a scar? On his neck?" Dean asked. Christie nodded.
"That son of a bitch." Dean muttered.
"What?" Christie asked.
Dean punched the wall angrily, and rested his head against it.
"Woah, Dean, What are you talking about?" Christie asked, startled at his sudden outburst.
Dean sighed. "The thing I was hunting when I met your mom was a vampire. He was after her. I tried to kill him, by cutting off his head, but he got away before I could. He left town, and Sammy and I had to go after him. That's why we left, was to get the vamp. We tracked him for eight years, but he was always one step ahead of us. One day……he vanished, no trace at all. He must have been leading us away from her, so there would be no way for us to reach her in time. I assumed that another hunter iced him, but apparently not."
"You mean to tell me that the same vampire that you were hunting when you met mom…killed her?" Christie asked quietly. Dean nodded.
"It's my fault that you got put in the foster system. If I had just….killed him the first time, none of it would have ever happened. She would still be alive, and you would still have your mom." Dean said.
Christie swung her legs out of bed, and went over to him. He was still facing the wall, and didn't hear her behind him. She wrapped her arms around his waist, in a hug. Dean stiffened.
"You did everything you could. I don't blame you for anything." She told him. Dean turned around to face her, and hugged her back.
"What did I miss?" Sam asked, walking into the room. Christie quickly pulled away from Dean, and turned to face Sam.
"Oh, um nothing much." she replied awkwardly.
"Find anything?" Dean asked.
"Just the mermaid……who is now knocked out and tied up in the trunk." Sam replied nonchalantly.
"What?" Dean asked.
"Yeah, she disguised herself as a librarian, and tried to attack me. Luckily, I knocked her out by tipping a bookshelf over onto her, and now here I am." Sam shrugged.
"Well, let's interrogate this bitch." Dean said, walking towards the door.
"Hey, I am covered in blood….so, I'm gonna take a shower." Christie told them.
"Go ahead." Sam replied, picking up the chair at the desk, and setting it in the middle of the room. Christie rummaged in her bag for some clothes, then went into the bathroom and closed the door. The sound of running water ensued.
Dean carried the small blonde woman into the room, and dumped her into the chair unceremoniously. Sam tied her to the chair with some rope, and Dean smacked her face. The mermaid jerked awake, and blinked up at the Winchesters. She laughed, "Well well well, isn't this an honor. The legendary Winchester brothers…..and the girl, where is she now?"
Dean put his hands on both sides of the chair and leaned into her face.
"Tell us how to reverse it." he growled.
"Or what?" the mermaid asked. Dean drew the bone out of his jacket, and the vial of lamb's blood.
"Or I turn you into a fish-kabob."
Christie screamed, and there was a thump from the bathroom.
"Chris!" Dean rushed over to the bathroom, and shoved open the door. He froze when he saw the sight before him.
