4. Gods and Humans
Different gods had different relationships with humanity. Thoth, Isis, and Horus were all known as sunus, or “physicians”, because of their healing powers. Other gods were feared due to violent pasts. Sekhmet was feared by many after her bloodthirsty rampage through Egypt. Some areas of Egypt had a specific god or goddess that they worshipped more thoroughly than the others. Heliopolis worshipped Re, and Memphis was devoted to Ptah and Sekhmet. Akhetaten worshipped the Aten, or the sun. There were also areas that worshipped family triads of a “mother”, a “father”, and a “son”. Amun, Mut, Khonsu were worshipped at Thebes, and Ptah, Sekhmet, and Neferet were at Memphis.
