I walked down the boardwalk, breathing in that salty air. It actually felt nice to be living somewhere remotely nice. Everyone here was so active, I saw many people either riding bikes or running on the boardwalk, Active was something I was not. I could hear some people screaming and laughing from underneath the board walk; I found a staircase leading down to the beach, I was curious as to what was going on down there. I came to find a few teenagers smoking and goofing around, my kind of people. I grabbed a smoke out of my pocket and lit it with my lighter that I also had in my pocket. I didn’t talk to any of them just silently watched from a good distance, just far enough away so they didn’t think I was watching them. I set my light sweater down on the sand and sat on top of it. I turned around and watched the waves crashing against the sand, the sound of the ocean calmed me. I already knew coming down and watching the ocean would be a daily thing for me.
“HEY YOU!” I hear from behind me, I turn my head to see if they were talking to me. “You there, sitting down” I stood up and turned to face this voice speaking to me. It was a boy, he was tall, beautiful hazel eyes and longish brown hair, his jaw line was so intense, it was sexy.
“Me” I reply in my smartass tone,
“What’s your opinion on school?” He said moving closer to me.
“My opinion?” I said still mesmerized by how handsome this guy was. “I think it’s a waste of time, honestly.” I really hope I didn’t make myself sound stupid. I usually freeze up around attractive people, but for some reason it seemed easy to talk to him.
“SEE GUYS! Even this beautiful girl believes school is a complete waste of time!” He smiled and let out a little laugh. I blushed, He thinks I’m beautiful, me, beautiful.
“You... Think I’m beautiful?” I said quietly, kind of shy.
“Well of course” He said so confidently, I smiled. He grabbed my arm and pulled me toward his friend, I was in shock, I was speechless, I had no idea he was going to grab me. “Guys, meet...” He paused and looked at me.
“Emma” I said looking over at the two other teenagers standing across from me, one was a short little boy with short brown hair and blue eyes. The other was a tall girl who had black hair and had green eyes, she looked pretty punk.
“Well, Emma this Chloe, and Jack.” He said pointing to the others. “And I’m Jacob,” He sat down on the sand, so did the others. I sat down close to Jacob. “So are you new? I’ve never seen you around here before.” Jacob said staring in my eyes.
“Yeah, we just moved in a couple of hours ago.” I gulped. Chloe was glaring at me, I didn’t know why; I’ve never even spoken to her before.
“So you just thought you could come down here and invade out area?” Chloe said, giving me a death glare.
“Chloe, don’t be such a bitch” Jacob interrupted me, “Don’t worry about her, she’s just angry at the world, and hates everyone” his gaze moved to Chloe.
“Oh I see,” I didn’t really know how to reply to that.
“So, what brings you to California?” Jack said.
“My parents thought I needed a change of scenery.” I was still a bit angry about being forced to move here, but I was really hoping that maybe I could become friends with these guys. They seem fun and dangerous, just what I like.
“Let me guess, you’re one of those rich bitches who has so much money, you can just pick up and move when you get bored” Chloe said, I sighed, why did she dislike me so much?
“Well my parents are that way, I’m not. I honestly don’t care where I live.” What did she expect me to say? ‘Oh you you’re totally right, I’m this rich bitch and I get everything I want’ I wasn’t going to say that, even though my parents do buy me everything I do want. I didn`t think of myself as rich; Yes we have lots of money, and things, but that’s not what important in life.
“What do you mean you’re not like that? You seem like it.” She said leaning closer to me, trying to intimidate me. I wasn’t going to take her bullshit; I stood up and headed back to where I was before, to grab my sweater. I didn’t know her at all, and she knew nothing about me, but yet she judges me on looks. I hated people like that, I wasn’t just going to sit there and take the hits. I rushed to the staircase; I just wanted to leave this area as soon as possible, hoping they wouldn’t remember ever meeting me.
“Emma! Wait!” I heard a voice gradually getting closer to me, I stopped walking.
“its fine,” I continued up the stairs, practically running up them. I turned left once I made it to the top and booked it for a store not too far down the board walk. I rushed in and started to look at some clothes, but keeping an eye on the door, hoping whoever it was talking to me, wasn’t following me; but sure enough Jacob walks into the store.
“Emma, there you are.” He walked over to me. I inched away from him.
“Here I am.” I rolled my eyes.
“I’m sorry about Chloe, she isn’t good with new people,” I couldn’t believe he was standing up for her, after she just treated me like complete shit, well then again they are friends, and probably have been for a while, so actually I could believe it. What did I expect, for this hot new guy to stick up for a loser like me vs. one of his good friends,no.
“I can tell.” I said while walking around him and out the store, I was pretending to look busy, like I meant to just run off like that.
“Hey, she’ll warm up to you eventually” He said following me around like a lost puppy.
“Eventually?” I replied .Was he trying to hint that I would be hanging out with them more?
“Well, you seem pretty cool, and I would like to get to know you better…” He always said everything with such confidence, it seemed like he wouldn’t even be hurt, if I did reject him. I didn’t reply to him this time, I wanted to see how he would react. “Let me take you out.” Wait, did I just hear him correctly? He wants to take me out? Me? I looked around to see if there was another girl standing around. “Emma, I’m talking to you.” He let out a little sexy laugh,
“I suppose that would be nice.” I tried to sound less interested then I was. I was having bad butterflies in my stomach. I just met this guy, and he’s already asking me out on a date.
“I’ll meet you under the board walk, at 6 tomorrow.” He smiled then walked off; I screamed. He turned around with a shocked look on his face, “You okay?” I shook my head yes.
I was freaking out; I couldn’t believe I had a date tomorrow.
I walked to my new house with a huge smile on my face, my bad day, was turned around because of one person. I made it home around 9 pm, my parents were probably freaking out about me being so late.
I tried to quietly sneak up to my new room,
“Emma, dear, is that you?” My mom watched out of the living room, I look of relief crossed her face. “I was so worried, where did you even go?” She walked over to me and gave me a huge hug, I just awkwardly stood there; I usually don’t like a lot of people touching me.
“I made some friends, down by the boardwalk; I even have a date tomorrow night.” I walked away, leaving my mom standing there speechless. That’s exactly how I felt when Jacob asked me out.
I lay down on a couple of blankets and drift into a deep sleep, thinking about how tomorrow was going to turn out, I couldn’t stop smiling.
