3rd P.O.V. Harry
Remus, Sirius, and Harry arrived in Hogsmede almost immediately. Harry scrambled down from Sirius, Hugging his broken ribs and gasping for breath. The feeling of being squeezed through a small tube didn't help.
Sirius and Remus looked at Harry worriedly. Harry stood up straight with his blank mask he often wore at the Dursley's. They exchanged another look before asking Harry if he was ready to start walking. They were thankful that it was summer break.
When the castle came into view, Harry gasped. It was beautiful and easily the biggest building he had ever seen, not that he had ever been outside the house. The pain in his ribs was building and Harry was struggling to keep his mask up and not give in to the pain.
Black spots danced along the edge of Harry's vision as they went past the boundary. Ten steps later, the black swallowed Harry.
3rd P.O.V. Remus
Remus watched Harry as he walked. Harry's face was blank and emotionless. Thoughts flew through Remus' mind as he wondered what the little boy next to him had been through.
Remus watched Harry's mask fall and saw the pain he was truly in. His face went blank again as he fell. Remus' werewolf abilities were what kept Harry's head from hitting the ground. Without so much as glancing at Sirius, he ran to the castle.
Years of controlling his emotions was the only thing that kept Remus from freezing like Sirius had and not having an external panic attack. In truth, he was freaking out like Sirius. Only passing Severus Snape in the corridor, who's mask had slipped and shone a look of surprise as they barreled past, as they made their way to the Hospital Wing.
Shouting for Madam Pomfrey, they laid Harry down on a bed. She came over quickly. Seeing the confused look on her face, Remus explained who he was and what was going on; although he didn't know for sure why Harry collapsed.
She nodded and began a quick diagnostic spell to see what had caused all this.
3rd P.O.V. Sirius
Meanwhile, Sirius was having a full out panic attack. He was ushered into the corridor until he calmed down. 'I've had Harry for less than two hours and I've already messed up' was one among many of the thoughts that ran through his mind. He didn't even notice Snape, who had walked up to him.
"Well, Mutt, it seems you've already killed Potter." Snape was secretly worried about Lily's son. Sirius's head snapped up and Snape could see the conflicting emotions in his eyes.
"No," he replied. "We don't know what's wrong. Will you let Dumbledore know that we are here. At the Hospital Wing, that is."
Snape just nodded and stalked off to the headmaster's office.
Sirius finally collected himself enough to walk back in.
3rd P.O.V. Remus
Poppy had concluded the diagnostic spell with a grave look on her face. At that moment, Sirius chose to return from the corridor. Seeing her face, he quickened his pace to Harry's bed.
"Harry has four broken ribs and a punctured lung. That is what caused him to pass out." Her look became grimmer and angry. "This isn't even half of it. There's much more. I'm going to need one of you to go to Severus for a blood replenishing potion. The other should await in the corridor until I am done." Even though they already suspected this, they still became as angry as when they first found out. Remus hadn't even bothered restraining his anger. He wanted to hurt those muggles as much as, if not more than, Sirius. Due to his wolf instincts, Remus wanted to kill the one who had hurt his cub.
Sirius decided to be the one to wait in the corridor, so Remus went to the Dungeons.
3rd P.O.V. Severus Snape
Snape had already returned from the headmaster's office, now sitting in his own. He had all his pictures of Lily out, having just seen her son. He turned to the newest one. Lily had sent it in her last letter to him. It was of her and Harry the week before she died. She was so happy and full of life, you could see it in her emerald green eyes. Then her son, who was the spitting image of James (which disgusted him), but with her eyes. Lily's eyes. This pained him, knowing very well that one day he would have to look into those eyes. The eyes, so very like his mother's, but hey would not belong to Lily. He would never see Lily again.
A knock sounded on the door. Snape put all the pictures, but one, away. The one he had been looking at.
"Enter," he commanded.
Remus Lupin stepped through the door. "What is it you want, Lupin?" he sneered, but it was lacking its usual meanness. Remus looked at him oddly for a moment the asked, "Harry needs a blood replenishing potion. Poppy sent me to you." Snape nodded and went to his stores. Lupin, however, walked over to the desk. The picture Snape had been looking at caught his eye. Snape walked back in, but Remus was still bent over the desk looking at the picture.
Snape cleared his throat and Remus looked up, questions in his eyes. Snape sighed, much to Remus' surprise. He rarely showed that much emotion.
"Lily sent that to me a week before she died. That was the first time I had heard from her since 5th year, because of my mistake. She apologized for everything, even when it wasn't her fault." The pain was clear in his voice.
"I'm sorry for intruding. I hadn't seen that picture before. Would you like to see Harry? He isn't doing well, as you saw, but he'd like to see someone that was friends with his mom. After he warms up to you, that is." Snape glared, but nodded.
"What happened to the boy?" Snape asked, remembering Remus and Sirius speeding by earlier with the limp boy in their arms.
Remus' werewolf side came out as he snarled with barely contained rage, "Those blasted muggles abused him. He has four broken ribs, a punctured lung, and who knows what else they did to him." Severus looked at him warily, not having ever seen the werewolf that mad before, but it was short lived as his own anger came over him. He knew what the boy was going through having gone through it himself, but the boy had someone to save him. Snape had no one, no one but Lily.
They had arrived at the Hospital Wing. Madam Pomfrey must have finished because Sirius wasn't in the hallway. Snape stopped Remus suddenly. "Don't mention any of what you saw or heard to Black." said Snape with a glare.
"Of course not."
They entered the Hospital Wing. Harry was still unconscious. Madam Pomfrey must have used various creams, spells, and potions because Harry looked much better than before. The bruises were clearing and more than likely his ribs too. Sirius sat in the chair by the bed, holding Harry's hand. Snape took the potion to Madam Pomfrey. She walked over and woke Harry up with a quiet, "Rennervate."
Harry's eyes shot open. All noticed that the main emotion in his eyes were fear, panic, and pain. He tried to sit up and gasped due to the pain. He hadn't noticed that Sirius was holding his hand.
"Harry?" asked Sirius quietly. Harry spun around to him. "Do you trust me?" Harry studied him, then nodded slowly. "Will you drink this please? It will make you feel better." Harry nodded again then drank the potion.
Remus was almost in tears. No child should be so scared. A child should have eyes full of happiness, not hopelessness. He looked as if he had never had anyone to trust. 'He probably hasn't.' Remus thought bitterly.
Snape was shocked. He knew Remus had said that it was bad, but this was just sad. Judging by his wariness, he could scarcely imagine the scars that littered the boy's body: physical and mental.
Harry recoiled at the taste, but drank it all the same. He did not know the man that came with Uncle Moony. He looked scary, but not at the moment. Right now, he looked understanding. He gave the man a small, shy smile.
Snape was taken aback. The boy smiled at him. He was filled with warmth. His smile was Lily's. Hesitantly, he smiled back. The boy full out grinned. It disappeared as soon as it came upon his face. He winced, as if anticipating to get hit.
Sirius and Remus were surprised to say the least when Harry smiled at Severus. Although, that was nothing compared to when Snape smiled back. Harry grinning was the best thing that could possibly happen at that moment. Him wincing sobered them up.
"Harry," said Sirius cautiously. "We will never hit you. Ever. okay?" Harry nodded, relieved. Harry looked back at Snape, then so did Sirius and Remus.
"Harry, this is Professor Snape. We're at Hogwarts, a school." said Remus. Harry, shyly, said "Hewwo Pwofessor Snape." Everybody there was surprised. These were the first words that they had heard Harry say since they had gotten him. Snape felt a surge of pride that he had gotten Potter to talk. Remus grinned, "Harry, would you like to talk with Professor Snape alone?" Harry looked at Professor Snape, who nodded, then at Sirius, who looked conflicted but smiled. They left. Sirius sulked, then brightened. He was happy that Harry was opening up, but jealous that it had to be Snape.
Snape didn't know what to do so he sat down and waited for Harry to begin talking. Harry looked him over and opened his mouth to talk, then closed it again. Harry wasn't sure how to phrase it so he simply said, "I'm sowwy, sir."
Snape was shocked but managed to say, "What for? You haven't done anything. Harry looked him over again with sad eyes, which made him slightly uncomfortable.
"You know how I feewl, sir." Snape paled, but didn't disagree. He whispered out, "How did you know? No one does." Harry shifted on the bed. He was worried if he said too much more, that he would get in trouble. Seeing his discomfort, he said, "You may ask whatever you want. I will not hurt you."
Harry visibly relaxed. "I can feewl emotions, sir. You are sad and surpwised. A bit angwy too." He said honestly, the last part in a whisper, bracing himself for shouting. Snape looked shocked, which seemed to happen more often then not today. "That's uncommon Harry, you must be powerful." Answered Snape with a small, encouraging smile.
Now it was Harry's turn to be shocked. Him, powerful? "I can't be, Pwofessor" he said sadly. "If I was, the Duwsley's wouldn't have been able to huwrt me. You must be wong." Harry hadn't realized that he had said the last part out loud. He paled and started shaking. He jumped off of the bed and backed up, curling into a ball on the floor. 'I've ruined it. I'm bad, they don't want me.' Harry began crying, then started sobbing.
Snape was unsure of what to do. 'How do I deal with a crying child?' Snape just reacted on instinct. He walked over to Harry and crouched next to him. Snape put a hand on his back and began rubbing soothing circles, "It's alright Harry. Nobody will ever hurt you again." Harry sat up and looked into Snape's pure black eyes and saw truth. His crying slowed. Snape did the unexpected and pulled Harry into a hug. This surprised both parties. "Oh, and Harry?"
"Yes, Pwofessor?" "You don't need to call me Professor, I am not teaching you yet. You may call me Severus." They sat like that until Harry fell asleep. Snape laid him on the bed and covered him up. He did not miss the small smile on Harry's face as he slept.
~~~In the Corridor~~~
Remus and Sirius stood at the door and looked at each other. Remus looked amused while Sirius looked jealous. "I can't believe Harry wants to talk to Snivellus! What have I done wrong?" Sirius said, annoyed.
Remus smiled, "We may not understand what is going on, but if Severus helps..."
"Alright, alright. I get it." After a few minutes silence, Remus spoke. "We should probably go to Dumbledore. He might need to speak to us."
Sirius' look turned bitter, "I will never forgive him for letting Harry live like that."
"Sirius," said Remus, attempting to calm his friend, "We have him now. Lets focus on that."
They made their way to Dumbledore's Office, giving the password to the gargoyles. "Enter," sounded from behind the door. They walked in and turned to Dumbledore. "Have a seat. What is it that you wish to talk about?"
"Why?" Sirius asked. "Why did you wait so long? You had to of known."
Dumbledore looked his age for once. "All I ask is that you listen. When Lily died, she protected Harry. No harm could come to him. Taking him to Petunia, the blood protection wards kept magical harm from coming to him. I never imagined that harm would come to him inside the wards. I am so very sorry, I don't know if you will ever forgive me; or if I can even forgive myself." The last part was said in a whisper.
Remus understood why the Professor did it, but it didn't make him any less angry at the Professor. Sirius just stared at him. "We could have protected him."
Dumbledore sighed, "I know. I believed it would be better for Harry to grow up away from the fame. I believe it is best for you to return to him now. He should get to know you before you return home."
"Yes, sir." replied Remus, steering Sirius away. As they walked back, Sirius was ranting under his breath, "... Mad old man... we could've protected him... blasted Dursley's..."
They arrived at the Hospital Wing just in time to see Severus stand up and lay Harry on the bed. He had not replaced his mask Remus grinned while Sirius tried to hide his jealousy. Snape turned around with his mask down and smile on. He saw them and scowled, which made Sirius grin. "Aww, is Harry turning you soft?"
His scowl deepened, "I don't know what you're talking about." He then swept from the room.
Harry shifted, then his face twisted in pain. Then he began thrashing and whimpering. Sirius ran to him and picked him up. He held Harry tight and rubbed small circles in his back. Harry stiffened then relaxed into Sirius crying silently. Sirius pulled back, "Harry, you want to live with me and Remus, right?" Harry nodded, then asked, "Is that okay, sir?"
Sirius smiled. "Okay? Yes. But please don't call me sir, I'm not old enough for that yet." He smiled and Harry smiled back.
Remus stood behind them, watching the encounter. "Harry, would you like to see your new house?" He nodded and off they went to the Black/Lupin/Potter household.
AN- I hate how in most of the fanfictions where Harry is raised by Sirius and Remus, that Snape acts like a total arse. I'm mixing it up. :) Vote and Comment!!
PS- Harry's voice is supposed to be adorable.... soooo sorry that I suck at writing stuff like that. And stuff in general.
