I was in a ballroom, walking down some stairs, wearing a long red strapless dress, my hair up held together by a diamond headband, and everyone around me was staring in awe. I got to the bottom of the stairs and a man took my hand and kissed it lightly. He looked familiar, he was tall, dark thick hair, the most beautiful navy eyes and a mischievous smile. He led me to the middle of the ballroom and we began dancing. He leaned in to me and pressed his lips to my ear. "He's sitting in the far corner, black bow tie, drinking whiskey, smoking a cigar. In a minute, someone will inform him of a call. He will leave and you'll follow. Bump into him and begin making polite conversation. Okay?" I looked at him. "Okay."
"Stay safe Vic."
Soon enough it happened, everything went to plan and I began making conversation with him.
"So, are you here with your boyfriend?" He asked me. "No, I don't have a boyfriend, I recently broke up with him." Fake tears began to fill my eyes and he put his arm around me in comfort. "Aw baby, you want to go somewhere quiet?" I looked at him and smiled "Yeah, I'd like that" We began walking out and we stepped into a limo. We arrived at a hotel and we made our way to a hotel suite. I laid him down on the bed and poured ourselves a drink. I slipped a white powder into his and stirred it when he wasn't looking. "So, is your name as beautiful as you?" He asked in a flirtatious manner. "I smiled at him and said, "Ruby" I handed him his drink and he drank it all, before he could unbutton his shirt properly after kissing all the way up my arm, he passed out.
I sighed and stepped off of him. I began searching through his pockets and eventually pulled out a set of keys and a USB stick. Just then the boy from the ball opened the door. "Did you find them?" "Yeah" I said showing him. "Good." He set down a laptop and plugged in the USB stick. Files and documents appeared about drug cartels and names of women and men, ours included. "This is it." He said. He downloaded all of the files, and took the keys and began searching for a safe, which he found. Inside were pictures of more people and cash, in thousands at least. "Can we take some?" I asked hopefully, he turned to me and said "No. We got what we came for, we can't risk getting caught." He shut the safe, locked it and we placed everything back where it was and left, like we were never there.
We ran down into the lobby, and all the people disappeared, chandeliers faded into dust and a cage pinned us in. The boy I was with now laid on the floor, bloody and beaten. I knelt down to help and he began shouting, "Why didn't you help me? You left me to die. I saved you and you let me die!" I became hysterical. "What? I don't know who you are! How can I help you? Tell me how!" I held his hand and he now lay lifeless. Out of no where a man came into view and stared down at me. "It's too late now." He said. "We got him. Now we're coming for you." He snickered at me. Blood began dripping from my hands leaking through my dress, and I began to cry. The tears burned my eyes. I felt powerless, it's all my fault. I looked down at the boy and he began do crumble into dust.
"LUKE!" I shot up in bed, sweating and panting, my face wet from where tears had fallen, Caleb ran towards me and held me by my shoulders. "Hey, you're okay now, it was just a dream, you're safe." He sat and comforted me until I had calmed down properly and he asked me what happened. I told him the dream and how I'd remembered Luke and how we conned people. "Why did you con people?" "I can't remember. For money or secrets or something. But that guy in my dream. His name was Paulo. He had something about my Dad and what he did, and Luke and I as well. It was important we got it back because we couldn't risk anyone finding out." "Finding out what?" "I don't know. Maybe I'll remember later."
I laid back down and Caleb began walking away but I pulled him back.
"Stay with me, please." I asked wearily. Without a word, he crept in next to me and slid his arm around my waist. He was so warm, and big enough to snuggle into properly. Before I knew it, I was in another sleep, without any nightmares.
The next morning I was awoken by the sun trickling through the window shining onto my face. I sat up, and my head still hurt so I took a couple more painkillers and went upstairs. Alana was sitting at the table balancing eating her breakfast and texting. She looked up at me and smiled. "Good morning! Did you have a good sleep." "Uh, yeah I did thanks. You?" I decided not to mention the nightmare.
I poured myself some cereal and began eating, as Caleb appeared, his hair was wet so I assumed he had just showered. "You okay now?" He asked, sliding his glasses onto his face.
"I'm fine now, thanks."
"What happened? Did something happen to you guys?" Alana asked worriedly.
"No it's nothing I just had a bad dream that's all."
"Aww honey." She put her arm around me and squeezed. I winced, my arm still hurts from whatever the hell happened to me. "Well, tonight you and Caleb are going to a partaay! So you'll have fun tonight, yeah?"
"Sure I guess."
"Girl you're gonna look so hot! You're so pretty anyway. She combed my hair with her fingers."
"Well I haven't got anything to wear, I mean, I came in a jeans and shirt so-"
"You don't have any luggage with you? Why if you knew you were staying?"
Me and Caleb looked at each other from the corners of our eyes.
"Well, I had luggage but it got lost on my way here, I've been trying to call, but nothing's happened, they haven't found it so I'm stuck. Plus I didn't pack for a party either, I wasn't expecting an invite." I smiled innocently. Man I was a good liar. Alana seemed to buy it to because she said "Oh, that sucks. Well not to worry you can borrow my stuff, you seem like my height. I'm going to work, so when I get home we'll doll you up okay? Be ready!" She hopped off the stool and bounced out the door.
"Phew! Quick thinking there Victoria."
Before I knew it, Alana was playing dress up with me in her room. She straightened my hair into a high, tight pony tail, slid me into a black leather skirt, a shiny silver crop top and some heeled black boots. I had silver eye shadow, peach blusher and a matte red lipstick to go. I looked in the mirror, and you could barely tell I had been beaten within an inch of my life, my face looked a little swollen, I had cuts and bruises, but Alana was a Goddess at covering all that up so I looked socially presentable. She appeared behind me in the mirror and gasped. "Oh, my God, you look so hot! Told you." She looked so proud of herself. I hugged her and thanked her for helping me out. I went downstairs and joined Caleb in the kitchen. He turned around and looked at me, eyes wide and mouth gaping. "Wow..holy crap you look...amazing"
I felt my cheeks burn red, I knew I was blushing, and I think he saw it too.
"Thank you, no one's ever been that nice to me before."
"No you're lying you must get lots of compliments."
"Not from what I remember, I had a boyfriend once but he barely acknowledged me in the end."
"Oh. Well, I think you look great."
"I think she looks smoking!" Someone shouted from behind me. It was Ben and Isaac.
"Well, you ready? Let's go show you off new girl." Isaac linked his arm with mine and we headed out the door. I hope this night will be good. Please God let it be good.
