A and B
I used to think what it would be like to give birth, and I was to find out rather soon. I sat up in my bed with Sam holding my hand beside me. Ari was taking a nap on the chair, we'd been here for a day already and Jane said the babies should really be here by the end of the night. I was all wired up and Jane said I should be okay to have a Vaginal Birth. After all, the C-Section didn't sound too good. My midwife was in and out from then on, tracking the heart beat, and making sure I was okay. The last time she came I was told I was fully dilated.
I was getting worse and worse contractions now. At first it felt like gripping pains, in my back too. It got more intense as time went on. I never really imagined it in this way, I imagined some really bad period pain, but this was one billion times worse. Next thing I knew Jane was there. I glanced at the clock. 11pm.
I couldn't believe it was time, It can't have been. Ari was awake. She was stroking my head and Sam was holding my hand. My contractions were terribly painful. I looked up at Sam and he tried to smile, instead he kissed my head.
"Okay Christina, sweetheart, can we start pushing now? Just slowly, please." I heard Jane say. This can't be happening- I pushed.
"Good girl." I pushed again.
"Ok, now really big push!" I pushed for a third time, trying really hard.
"Good job." Sam whispered.
"Well done, Babes." Ari whispered afterwards.
"One more time!" I pushed more and I pushed more.
"Baby Boy first!" She said, and I felt a sudden flush and my eyes filled up with tears and my heart fell in love at the moment when she held out my precious child. Then we had to continue.
We did the same routine for a while and my baby girl was held in front of me and I felt undying love inside.
Sam kissed my head, "Oh my gosh, well done Baby." He was crying now. I think Ari even was too. At least I wasn't the only one.
The nurses took Niamh and Riley to be cleaned up and checked and then they finally brought them in. Sam held Niamh first, as I fed Riley for the first time. It seemed to work out fine. Sam was so content there, holding Niamh, he spoke to her for a while and then when Riley finished, we all swapped. It was amazing meeting my babies for the first time. Amazing. A feeling that is so unexplainable, it left me speechless.
I eventually had something to eat and got cleaned up into some fresh clothes. Ari went home to show Davie the photos and send them to the family. Sam stayed to help and comfort me while I slept.
That was the night my gorgeous babies were born.
