I started the engine to the Jeep. It turned on with a rumble. The sound of it running was familiar, and many memories flashed through my mind. This Jeep was identical to my old one. It was the same dark green, with the same exact interior and had the exact same sound. It was beautiful with all its imperfection. The only difference was that the steering wheel was on the other side. And it was all mine because I just bought it.
I had debated about what kind of car to buy since my Dad had sent me the money from the one back in America. I considered and test drove many cars that would fit in my budget, but none of them felt right. I was almost ready to give up on my search when I saw an ad on the bulletin in the courtyard for this one. The minute I laid eyes on it, I knew it was the car for me. It didn't matter that it wasn't the newest or prettiest car around, it reminded me of home, and I liked that. It was a piece of home. I thanked the kid I bought it from and pulled out of his parkway to head back to the apartment. I couldn't wait to tell Niall about this and I wondered what he would think of my choice of car. Just as I got to the parking area for my building, my phone started buzzing. It was Morgan. Putting the car in park, I unlocked the screen and answered it.
"Uh Raegan, when were you going to tell me that Niall talked about you on TV?!"
Well hello to you too then.
"I don't know Morgan, maybe because I didn't know? Now what the hell are you talking about?" I was still sitting in my car even though it was off.
"It was that interview on that show."
"Morgan, they do many interviews you know."
"Right, sorry. The show that my mum and Rachel watch, I think the ladies name is Jill?" It must have been the one from last week that I watched.
"You mean that one? Morgan he didn't even mention my name."
"Yeah, but he was still talking about you. We all know it. Well not really, but you know what I mean. He was all cute about it too. You're so lucky." I smiled. I was lucky to have even met Niall, let alone start having a thing with him.
"I guess so."
"You are! Don't be so down. I bet you'll see him sooner than you think." Morgan was always the positive one when it came to tricky situations. "Has he asked you yet?"
"No, we haven't seen each other in almost two months."
"Yeah, but you talk on the phone or skype every single day."
"I guess that's true...."
"He really must want to wait, like he said. I thought the whole thing was really sweet actually."
"Yeah it was, but I feel like it just left me hanging you know?"
"I get what you mean. Just be patient. You're pretty good at that. Besides, you couldn't stop liking him if you tried." I could picture her smirking as she said this.
"True that." I really couldn't. If Niall were to just to stop things now, before they even truly began, it would take a long time for me to forget about him. That's saying something considering we're not even officially dating. He had truly caught me I guess.
"Well I've got to go darling." She said dragging out the last words in a mock posh voice. "My break is just about over. See you tomorrow!"
"Alright girl, talk to you soon. Bye." I hung up and shoved my phone in my back pocket. Morgan always had a way of cheering me up a bit. I finally got out of the jeep and went up to my apartment. It had been a long day and it was time to just relax and lounge around. There was about an hour left until Niall would skype me, and I couldn't wait....
--Niall's Point of View--
I threw myself on the hotel bed as soon as Harry opened the door to the suite. It had been a long day, and it was safe to say all the guys, including myself, were tired and little narky. We had been traveling for the last two months doing signings and promotions and we couldn't wait for the holidays so we could go see our families. I could have passed out on the bed right then and there if it weren't for Raegan. I was supposed to skype her in a few minutes, and I couldn't wait. Talking to her was the best way to end my day, and it always left me falling asleep with a smile. It sucks that I can't just go see her, but at least I get to hear her voice and laughter.
I stood up and stretched my back, then went to my luggage to grab my laptop. I opened it up, and turned on skype. It showed she was already online so I rang her up. She replied pretty quickly, and soon enough her face was on the screen smiling at me. Her smile was the prettiest I'd ever seen.
"Hello love." I said to her. She immediately started blushing as usual.
"Hi." She was still smiling at me, her face beautifully glowing.
"How are you?"
"I'm great. I finally bought my car!" Damn. I had been trying to put that off for ages. I worried about her adjusting to the driving over here. What if she got in an accident? I trust her when she says she's a good driver, but not everyone on the road is as good as her. I couldn't help being protective of her safety. I don't know what I would do if something were to happen to her on the road, and the thought of her out driving scared the hell out of me.
"What did you get?"
"You're gonna laugh..."
"No I'm not. If you like it, I'll like it too."
"Promise." How bad could it be?
"I got a Jeep. Just like I had in America. Same make and model and everything. It's so old, but that's what makes it great and I love it."
"Babe, why would I laugh at that? That's awesome! I don't care if your car is a banger or a bimmer. As long as it makes you happy."
"You really think that? I figured you might laugh because why would someone buy the exact same car they had before? It's kind of silly don't you think?"
"I don't know, maybe because they love it? And it feels like home?" I said smiling at her. "Who cares if it's silly."
"Oh, well yeah. That's why I got it. I guess you're right."
"See, nothing to laugh about there."
"So how are you?" She asked. "What did you do today?"
"Well, we're in Wales for the next day or two doing promotions. We just got in from L.A. last night. Today we had an interview and a signing. It was really fun but I'm jaded as all hell. I didn't sleep well last night."
She made a pouty face at me. "Why didn't you sleep well?"
"The hotel bed was crappy. And the jet lag was getting to me."
"Yikes, that's the worst." she said. I was about to answer her when I heard the clicking sound of a camera.
"Gotcha!" I looked up to see Harry standing a few feet to my side holding up his iPhone. "This is so going on twitter." He said. He walked out of the room and left chuckling to himself.
"Harry lay off!" I yelled. Normally I wouldn't have gotten pissed, but I was worried that if the picture showed Raegan's face, it would ruin everything. I knew she wasn't ready for all that attention, and I didn't want to mess things up with her.
"Niall, whats up?" I heard Raegan say, because I was all distracted now. She obviously hadn't heard Harry.
"Oh Harry's being a right pisser." I told her. "He just took a picture of us skyping." A look of concern flashed across her face. "But don't worry love, I think you can only see me."
"Okay." She said smiling again, but it was a small smile. She got quiet for a minute, and her demeanor changed. "I miss you." She said quietly, sadness reaching her eyes and staring right into mine. It was breaking my heart seeing her sad. I could see her start to tear up a little and a few tears rolled down her face. She wiped the few tears away quickly, giving me a small sad smile again.
"I miss you too love. So much. I'm sorry we can't be together right now. But as soon I can I'll come see you, I'll tell you yeah? Every time I close my eyes I picture you there. Baby you don't have to worry. I'll be coming back for you." She started to laugh, which made me laugh. Her laughter always made me laugh because the sound of it made me so happy.
"Are you really quoting one of your songs at me?" She said still laughing.
"Maybe......it made you laugh, so it worked didn't it? And now I know you actually listened to the CD I sent you."
"Of course I listened to the CD!" Her smile returning. I started singing "Back For You" to her, and I could see her whole demeanor changing from sad to happy again. Once I finished she gave me a little applause. "That was lovely."
"Thank you, thank you very much." I said in my best Elvis impersonation. She started to laugh even more. The butterflies in my stomach were freaking out, but I liked it. To me, it just meant that I was doing something right. In fact, making Raegan happy has slowly become a priority for me, and that felt right. I always did my best to make her smile and laugh. I was nuts about this girl, and I couldn't help but fall for her. She was kind, sweet, compassionate, and beautiful. She loved helping others, but asked for nothing in return. She made me want to be a better person. She was a little shy, but I liked that too, and coming to Ireland was bringing her right out of her shell. She appreciates where I come from, and understands how important family is. She meant the world to me, and I couldn't wait to ask her to be my girlfriend. I couldn't wait to tell people that she was my girl, my babe, and the light of my life. I wanted to tell her all this right now, but that would ruin the whole surprise, so I held it in. It sucked that we had only been able to talk over the phone and skype, but it didn't mean I liked her any less. We haven't known each other long, but I was falling hard for her. I know that some people might not take us seriously yet, because we've only known each other about two months, but I don't give a shit what people think. They weren't there the day of the signing. No one but the boys, Sarah, and management felt the entire atmosphere of that ballroom change. We were supposed to meet, and we were supposed to fall for each other. We were serious, and I knew I wanted to be with her for a long time.
"Niiiialll? Helloooo?" She said snapping her fingers. I had completely dazed out, lost in my thoughts about her.
"What? Oh sorry. I spaced out."
She chuckled a little bit. "You do that a lot you know. Have you not noticed?"
"Yeah, I know, but I can't help getting lost in my thoughts when I'm thinking of you." Her face turned bright red in the cutest way possible. "I mean it you know." I told her.
"I know." She said with a smile. I was going to answer her when I was suddenly interrupted, again.
"NIALL, WE HAVE TO SLEEP NOW. GET OFF OF SKYPE WITH RAEGAN AND GO TO BED. WE'RE GETTING UP EXTREMELY EARLY AND MANAGEMENT WILL BE PISSED IF WE'RE LATE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF BED." Oh Liam, always on top of everything.
"Was that Liam?" She asked.
"Yeah, sorry love but according to gramps over there, I've got to go bed now." I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. Leave it to Liam to make me feel like a child. I couldn't complain though, without him, the rest of us wouldn't be able to get anywhere on time.
"I HEARD THAT!" Raegan and I started laughing again. "NOW GO TO BED." he yelled.
"Well, this is goodnight I guess." I said.
"Alright, tell the boys I say hello okay?"
"Okay. Goodnight beautiful."
"Talk to you tomorrow handsome." Little did she know that we'd be seeing each other in 12 days.
"Night babe." I gave her a smile and a wave. She blew me a kiss, then ended the call, right as my phone started buzzing like crazy. It was twitter. I unlocked the screen and the first thing I saw was a tweet from Harry.
@NiallOfficial Skyping his lovely lady. Would you just make it official already?
Along with the tweet was the picture Harry took. To be honest it wasn't a bad picture. He had taken it from the side so you could see my profile and I had a really big grin on my face. I actually liked the picture, but I knew my phone would be blowing up for the next few days....all thanks to Harry. The fans would go nuts at the fact that I had "a lady." They go crazy everytime one of us finds someone. I'm sure they would do their best efforts to track Reagan down, but I was confident that they wouldn't figure it out. After all, we hadn't been out together for months, and its not like the paps would be following her around, they didn't know who she was. I turned my phone on silent to block out constant buzzing, and went to bed just like Liam told me too.
My phone hadn't stopped buzzing since last night. Fans were constantly asking me about Raegan. I tried to respond to as many tweets as possible, but I never gave them the answer they wanted. I would just say things like "sorry it's a secret!" or "can't tell, but thanks for asking!" I wasn't ready to have our relationship on a pedestal for the world to talk about, and I knew that Raegan wasn't either.
The guys and I were walking downtown in Cardiff. It was a nice city, and there were plenty of shops to find the perfect gift for Raegan, and the boys were helping. I had finally narrowed down my ideas about what to buy. I thought I would buy her a painting or some sort of artwork. Last week she had complained to me that her living room was boring and she needed new art pieces for the walls. She wanted the room to look more "cultured and pretty." I didn't understand why she cared so much about having art in her living room, but I figured that a really cool painting would be a good gift. Every time she would look at it, she would be reminded of me, and it would make her living room look nice like she wants. The guys and me had been walking around for a while, but I hadn't seen a single painting that I thought she would like. None of them seemed right. They weren't big enough or beautiful enough, some were too small and some were just plain ugly to the point where we couldn't stop laughing.
"What about this one?" Asked Zayn. He pointed to a medium sized canvas that had tons of swirls and hidden images of birds. In the middle of it was one of those sad mask faces.
"Nah, it's nice, but Raegan wouldn't want that sad looking thing in her living room." We kept walking through the market. The whole alley was filled with local artists and their crafts. Some were selling jewelry, others were selling desserts and homemade candy, and many were selling paintings.
"How about this one mate?" Liam pointed to a large painting. It had many lines going up in down in all different colors, but that was it really.
"No, that doesn't say anything to me." I said. He rolled his eyes and kept walking. I was starting to think I would never find the right painting. We had already been looking all over town for the last two hours and hadn't even had food since before the interview we had that morning, which was way too long for my liking. I was about ready to give up and go get some McDonalds when something caught my eye. Hidden behind a hideous painting of a bunch of guys with big beards, I could see the top of a canvas decorated in dabs of blue leading into the top of what looked like green trees. I pulled it out from behind its uglier companion and immediately knew it was the one. It was night time scene with green trees lit up by lamp posts lining a wet footpath. A couple holding an umbrella were in the corner, and the man had his arm wrapped around the woman. It was perfect for Raegan.
"Guys, I found the one! It's perfect!" I yelled throughout the alley. They all strolled back over to where I was standing.
"Nice find mate." Said Louis. "It's perfect for her."
"Yeah, she'll definitely love that one." Said Harry. "She might even let you into her bedroom for that." He said. I rolled my eyes at him and Liam gave him a good thump to the chest making him curl over for a second. "I was only joking!" He said. At this point, the guys knew I was serious about Raegan, and that this wasn't all just to get in her pants. Harry just liked to joke and tease about those sort of things.
I walked up to the other side of the cart where the owner was standing.
"Excuse me, I'd like to get this one." I told the man, reaching for my wallet.
"Aaaaah, lovely choice sir. I'll wrap it up for you. That will be 100 pounds please." I handed him the money and he pulled out some wrapping for the canvas. "Is this for a special girl?" He asked.
"Yeah, she's pretty special."
"Well if it's true love, don't let her go son. True love is hard to come by these days."
"Uh thanks." He handed me the canvas and told me to have a nice day. I thanked him again and walked back over to the guys, who were looking at some homemade candy. We started walking towards the main street to take a taxi back to our hotel. Tonight would be our second to last night in Wales, and one night closer to seeing Raegan.
--Raegan's Point of View--
"Holy crap Raegan! You should see how many people have tweeted Niall about you." said Morgan. Her, Sarah and I were having a Monday sleepover at my place, and the two of them were scrolling through their twitter feed while I painted my toes. I hadn't been on twitter all day, but Niall texted me this morning telling me that Harry actually had posted the picture he took last night while we were skyping, and that the fans were going nuts. Maybe if they knew that I was just a regular girl who isn't all that famous, they probably wouldn't care as much, or maybe that would make them care even more. To be honest I wasn't sure what they would think of me.
"Seriously Raegan, these crazy Directioners are practically begging him to tell them who 'his lady' is. Half of them are probably sobbing, while the other half are hunting you down as we speak." I started laughing, almost painting my whole pinky toe purple.
"Is it really that bad?" I asked.
"It's bad." They said in unison.
"Damn, what if they find out about me? I'll get trolled and probably get tons of hate messages."
"That comes with dating one if the most talented and hottest guys in the world at the moment. Most of the fans will probably be supportive, but you'll definitely get some hate." said Morgan.
"Yeah but Niall is worth it, isn't he Yankee?" said Sarah. She was still calling me that.
I started to blush. Of course he was worth it. Being with Niall makes me feel like I can face anything, as long as he's there supporting me, just like I want to do for him. I wanted us to be able to rely on each other, help each other out, and make all the struggles of dating an international pop star worth it.
"Yeah, he's definitely worth it." I told her, a smiling spreading across my face.
"Has he said anything about you actually being his girlfriend?" asked Sarah.
"Not a word. I know he has his reasons, one of them being able to see me in person, but this waiting game is just awful."
"Good things come to those who wait my dear." said Morgan in a pretend Granny voice. She practically sounded like my Nan. Sarah and I started cracking up, and it took us forever to stop laughing.
The rest of the night continued on like this, us being silly, talking about boys, and doing girly things like painting our nails and doing facials. We finally went to bed around two in the morning, and I fell asleep with thoughts of Niall floating through my mind...
