4. Necklace Emergency
As Ellie was getting rushed out of the room by her teacher, she quick glanced at Sistine and saw a look of shock and dissapointment. Mr. Hans looked her in the eyes and tried to calm her down by saying, "Shhh. Calm down. What's wrong?" Ellie tried to answer him but when she tried talking it just made her want to cry more. Eventually, Ellie was sent home and Mrs. Groth sent her directly to the therapist. He asked her what was wrong and all she would do is look at the ground and sniffle. The therapist sent her back to Mrs. Groth because she was unresponsive. Mrs. Groth strapped Ellie in the front seat and slowly shut the car door. Mrs. Groth shyly walked to the other side of the car. "I miss him too kiddo. But, there is nothing we can do about it" her mother said. "I want to be able to do something but, there isn't anything. I think that it will be very hard to understand what to do and how to get through all this but, we'll do it together won't we?" Ellie stared at the floor with a slight smile and nodded. "Well, thats great! I think that this deserves cookies and hot chocolate at Grandma's house!" Ellie decided to join in on the fun. "Huzzah!" she shouted and her mother and Ellie burst out laughing. The car started and then they zoomed to Grandma.
Once Ellie got to Grandma's house and sung "To Grandmother's House" for the hundredth time, her spirits were lifted. Her Grandmother walked out of the house in worn out yellow duck slippers that quacked whenever she took a step. Her fluffy pink robe trailed behind her, dragging in the snow. "Ellie your here! Shouldn't you be at school?" Grandma shouted. Ellie nodded and then shrugged as if she was saying, "Yeah but I'm not" Grandma tilted her head like a confused puppy dog and guided Ellie and Mellisa Groth inside her big house. Ellie felt somethign clanging in her pocket and she reached in and found the necklace that her father had gotten her for her 7th birthday. She felt a shot of sadness but, a bolt of remeberance. She remembered that her dad had said to show Grandma about the necklace and then, Grandma would tell her about it. She ran into her Grandma's kitchen where she was washing dishes and pulled out the necklace. " What is so important about this necklace? Dad told me to show you and then, you would tell me stuff but I dont know__" She suddenly stopped because her Grandma had clasped her hands around Ellie's I need to tell you something. Ellie had the most comfort when Grandma had touched her and grabbed her hands. She looked at her and gave her a big hug. "Follow me." Grandma said and guided her to the basement.
