Anakin Skywalker And The I-Became-A-Jedi

Anakin Skywalker's perspective of "Attack Of The Clones." Book 2 of the Anakin Skywalker series. Great inspiration from "Draco Malfoy And The Rejected Handshake." Enjoy!

14. Showdown

We followed Dooku to a hangar tower. The gunship remained just long enough for us to jump off before it exploded behind us.

We got inside only to see Dooku at a control panel next to a Solar Sailer ready for takeoff. He's running away! "You're going to pay for all the Jedi you killed today," I snarled warningly.

Obi-Wan started to whisper some sort of battle strategy, but I refused to go through. The anger in my heart is starting to change, becoming the hate-filled rage I'd felt on Tatooine. If I waited, if I went slowly, surely I would lose control again. I'm a Jedi! I can't feel like this! "I'm taking him now!"

"No, Anakin!" my Master screamed as I started forward across the mosaic-ridden floor. I almost hesitated. But Obi-Wan didn't know about the tragedy on Tatooine. He must never know.

Disaster! Instead of drawing his own lightsaber, Dooku electrocuted me! I screamed and involuntarily squeezed my eyes shut as the bolts enveloped my body. For a split-second I could feel my feet leave the floor...and I landed. Hard. Still feeling the surge of dark energy. My body felt as if it had been seared, and as I writhed on the floor I noticed smoke was rising from my Jedi robe.

Now it's hard to stay conscious. Trying to block out the pain, I was only peripherally aware that Obi-Wan had engaged Dooku. At least he didn't take the same hit. I should have listened to him! I can't die like this! What will Padme do without TCO? And Obi-Wan...

Thus I tried to open my eyes, only to find more pain. It felt like the electricity was licking at my eyeballs. Have I been blinded?

Have to focus! I concentrated hard, trying to get my breathing under control. A moment later my vision returned, allowing me to watch as Dooku drove his lightsaber into Obi-Wan's shoulder. As Obi-Wan collapsed, Dooku slashed his rear end as well. Darn you, Dooku! Smoke was still rising from my clothes when Dooku prepared the death blow...

Finding an unexpected surge of energy, I lunged at Dooku, igniting my lightsaber along the way, to block the Count's slash. Obi-Wan's limp body lay under the crossed swords.

"That's brave of you, boy," Dooku said, clearly undaunted. "But I thought you would've learned your lesson."

"I'm a slow learner," I replied, and charged. This is my first real live lightsaber duel. It excites me and apprehends me.

Seconds into the duel Obi-Wan throws his lightsaber up to me. Now armed with a lightsaber for each hand, I pressed my attack. But this guy's a toughie. He seems to parry each of my strikes...without any effort!

And then he used one swift slash to shatter my lightsaber, nearly severing my fingertips at the same time!

I'm really starting to hate this guy.

And yet, life goes on. Within seconds I laid aside my relentless style. This guy seems to know what moves I'll make before I do.

Thus I cut a wire lying on the floor in two, and as the room darkened we both raised our lightsabers. Now only our lightsabers could be seen in the room. Then I slashed at Dooku repeatedly, but it was no use. His lightsaber seemed to be everywhere. The darkness hadn't daunted him at all.

As our lightsabers clashed and sizzled, the room seemed to light up somehow. It must have been my awesomeness.

And then Dooku made his move. Krunk! His lightsaber swept through my sword arm, cutting it off! I shouted as I felt my breath go, then Dooku used the Force to throw me across the hangar. This time, everything went dark.

I wasn't sure how many minutes had passed when I woke up. I felt something shift against my head. I turned around and realized my head was braced against Obi-Wan's foot. Obi-Wan pushed himself from the ground and helped me, armless and weak as I was, do the same. I probably would have thanked him if I had the energy.

Anyway, the first thing I saw was Yoda standing in the middle of the hangar. Parts of the ceiling were missing and rubble laid all over the floor.

What happened?

Then I noticed Dooku's Solar Sailer was gone. He must have escaped. So in the end, not even the great Jedi Master could prevent his departure.

"Anakin!"

Padme came running into the room with a squad of clone troopers. It really hurt me to see her anguished expression when she saw what was left of my right arm. She wrapped her arms carefully around me. At least she's safe. I wrapped my remaining arm around hers as well, holding her close. I don't care that Obi-Wan and Yoda are watching. I was too afraid that if I let go of Padme my knees would buckle and I'd pass out again. And so I just stood there, holding her.
