Irwin woke up in her sheets soaked in sweat. She had not slept a day since the war began. Everyone was living in fear and thinking that they were all going to die. Once the disease broke out everything went into chaos, and now war was coming. In the South the storms were raging on without rest and in the North the terrorists finally got through the border of the central gates. Brothers turned against each other. Poverty, starvation, and beggars littered the streets everywhere you looked. Irwin's father went to fight in the war but had not returned and they were all sure he was long dead.
So there they were, hiding in the cellar like a bunch of caged animals as the bombs went off overhead. Irwins brother William wanted his mother to be proud of him so he wanted to sign up or the war but was not of age. Finally Sophie the youngest of them all, only eight years old didn't bother to worry about the war but instead kept her thoughts on the times when they would visit the lake and splash pebbles in the small stream, making wishes. It's amazing how much can change in a year.
Irwin lay awake in the dark, while her family slept, as the war raged on. The attackers were getting closer and she knew she needed rest if they had to run, but her mind would not shut down and sleep never came. She hated to admit it but she was deathly afraid to sleep. She thought if she made any movement the whole roof would collapse on them. She knew that she was exaggerating but she could not take any risks.
"Iri, are you awake?" called out her brother through the dark.
"Yes, I'm awake. But I wish I was asleep. I want to wake up from this nightmare and find dad in the kitchen preparing to make our favorite dessert." called out Irwin in a faint whisper.
"Would you believe me if I told you that I heard mom was going to send us off somewhere."
"No....maybe....just stop it Will, mom would never leave us like that."
"Iri listen to me, when people become desperate they will do anything to get what they want, and mom wants us to be safe. She will do everything in her power to make sure that happens and we need to be prepared if she sends us away. Look I'm just as scared as you are Iri, but we need to stop running and take a stand."
When Irwin didn't answer, Will became quiet and still as he lay motionless with thoughts swirling around his head trying to find a way to escape, but he still stayed silent.
"Many people are going to die, because the people that have nothing will soon have everything, and the people that have everything will soon have nothing." Irwin said this so quietly for only herself to hear then she turned around on the floor to face the wall and sleep finally took over.
sorry I have not written or published anything on movellas in a long time (if you even read my books) and again I am sorry this is such a short chapter but this is kind of an intro to the story. Tell me what you think in the comments and the next chapter will be longer.
