I looked around, having somehow gotten into the Mirror of Erised. It was a grassy area, with trees sprinkled every here-and-there.
The girl, Kristy, (I think that's her name) watched me take this all in.
"What's this?" I asked her. "Some new Hogwarts trick or something?"
She stared at me blankly. "Hogwarts?"
Ah, so she's a Muggle. Right. "You know, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Um, magic, Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter, uh...." I tried to find something that would register.
No recognition showed in her eyes, so I huffed and gave up.
A boy walked up behind me. "Justin," he said, extending his hand toward me.
"Albus." I shook his hand, smiling up at him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but I left, trying to find some alone time. I always got nervous around crowds I wasn't familiar with, see, and the old anxiety was creeping in ever-so-slowly. I was the youngest there by years.
I sat on a hilltop, my head between my knees. I took deep breaths in and out, slowly soothing myself.
At the sound of footsteps behind me, I turned and jumped.
"Hey, Albus. You alright?" The girl (what was her name?) sat next to me and looked at me, concern in her eyes.
"Yeah." I smiled weakly. "Just...overwhelmed, that's all."
"It is a lot to take in, isn't it?"
I grinned. "Tell me about it."
She looked at me. "You'll get used to it. Just give it a few days."
I nodded, and looked at the mirrors surrounding us. "So... Uh, what's with the mirrors?"
She shrugged. "I'd tell you if I knew. Oh, I'm Kristy." She winked.
"Well, Kristy," I stood up and dusted off my jeans, "I'm gonna go talk to Justin. Come with?"
"Sure," she shrugged.
I gazed at our surroundings one last time. How did I get here?
