Cursed Fairytales

9. Chapter 5: Karen

Why am I stuck in this insignificant little town when there's another world to be explored? I'd much rather be in a whole new world. I hate this town. I want to go see Paris, and Italy. I'm way too sheltered. My parents constantly keeping me inside, away from all contact with the outside world. I'm constantly being watched. It's like I have no escape from the stress building up inside of me. I have to do well in school, I have to participate in clubs and sports. It just is so tiring. But anyways, I arrived at school with the dumb expensive car my parents got me. Just was I was pulling into the parking lot, the school bad boy, Luke Hemmings, ran in front of my car making me slam on the breaks. I rolled down my window.

"WHAT THE HECK?!" He looked at me and smirked.

"Oh look at the kissup. Getting feisty." I rolled my eyes.

"I could've hit you! Can you just get out of the way so I can park?" He moved and winked at me. I rolled my eyes again and drove off to a parking spot.
In school I spotted my only friend, Brenna. "Hey Bren. What's up?"

"Not much. Just training after school today. What about you?" All she wanted to do was protect her, her family and her friends. She took up defense classes and she's gotten pretty handy on her feet.

"Well, I have a drama club meeting and then swim meet." She nodded.

"How are you always this busy?"

"You know. Parents." I laughed half heartedly. Luke came up to me again.

"Hey sweet cheeks." He winked. I tried to ignore him but he was like a virus. Even if I tried to get rid of him, he clinged onto me like it was necessary for him to survive. "You can't ignore me forever baby cakes." I gagged at his pet names. I gagged at the fact he thinks they're cute. I looked at Brenna, who's eyes went wide.

"What the fuck?" She mouthed. I shrugged. "Okay listen asswipe." She looked directly into Luke's eyes. "If you don't leave us alone, I will personally rip your throat out." He chuckled, put his hands up in "defense" and backed up. Before he was out of sight though, he winked. I yet again gagged at his attempts to probably get in my pants.

"Thanks for that."

"No problem. What are friends for?" We giggled and went to class.

Drama club was probably the only fun thing I did after school. A lot of people were there. We were having auditions for the school musical which just so happened to be The Little Mermaid. And of course, the mayor's daughter is talented and looks like Ariel so she's most likely going to receive the role. Kayla was very nice, she wasn't like most popular girls who are rude to other people just to look cool.

"Okay people, let's get this thing started." Our director, Mr. Q said. The room became quiet and everyone took a seat in the auditorium. "We're going to start with singing and then move onto the acting portion." He called a few names and they were pretty good with singing. Then it was Kayla.

"Hi I'm Kayla and I'm going to be singing Little Too Much by Shawn Mendes" Once she was done, the entire room stood up and applauded. Then it was Luke? I don't know why he was auditioning but whatever.

"Hi I'm Luke Hemmings and I'll be singing an original song called Daylight.

I can't look at you in the same light

Knowing what you did my heart doesn't feel right

My heads been spinning all night I need another point of view." A minutes later he finished and my mouth dropped open. He was incredible. I clapped along with everyone else.

A few more people went, and then it was my turn. I got up, legs shaking. "Hi, I'm Karen. I'm going to be singing Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart by Ariana Grande." Once I was finished, everyone stood up and applauded. I felt good about the audition.

Acting went pretty smoothly. Although, as confident as I am with how that went, Kayla will without a doubt be Ariel. I'll probably end up being one of Triton's daughters.
