looks down from the bridge. "What's so beautiful about this bridge?" He asks.
I push myself closer to the edge. "Well.. The bridge is a symbol for connections, passing, moving on and stuff like that. And it's beautiful.. The lake.. Not really water but still.. " I say.
Caleb looks down at me and smiles. I smile back, and this time it reaches my eyes, because it's real. Caleb nods. "I can see the point.." He says, and smiles even bigger. His teeth are white and straight.
I look up at him. "You do?" I ask. He nods, and looks out again. "I mean.. If this was different, I'd probably tell you to move on and probably call an elf on you.. But.." He hesitates.
I look up at him, in confusion. His jaw sets, and I can see him, deep in thoughts. "But what?" I ask.
Caleb still looks out. "Well. I don't treat you that way.. Because.. I don't know. You're different.. I'm different.. I feel differently about you.. Your not like the others.. I don't know.. I don't want to hurt you. You know?" He says, and looks down at me. His eyes are a little darker.
"Is it because I'm in a wheelchair?" I ask, and I'm afraid of the answer.
He shakes his head no. "I don't care if you're in a wheelchair or have robotlegs.. I care about who you are. Not how you where or are going to be.." He says.
He shrugs. "Well anyways.. Let's go. " He says, and grabs my chair, and he starts running really fast, and I feel the wind on my face. "Slow down!" I yell, but he just laughs, and keeps running. We turn a corner, and my moms house shows up.
As we get to it, he stops, and takes a deep breath. His clearly in shape..
"Where are you staying?" He asks. And I laugh, grab my wheels and turn around to face him.
"You know William?" I ask. Caleb nods with a confused look. "Why?" he asks.
I sigh. "I'm living with him and his fiancée Aimée" I say. Caleb laughs. "Really? Poor you! She's horrible, with the fake french accent and the constant cooking!" He says.
I roll my eyes. "Tell me about it..'just tell me if you need z'any 'elp'!" I laugh. Caleb smiles.
"I know what you're thinking.." He says, and I'm about to open my mouth and ask what he means, as he interrupts me. "I'm not married, or engaged like William.. I won't marry a girl, unless I know she's the one" He says, and I blush. "You could marry a robot you know?" I joke, and Caleb laughs, that's when I realize, I've just said to much to a knight. I cover my mouth. "Oh! I shouldn't have said that" I say, but Caleb just looks confused. "Why not? It's not like I'm gonna kill you" He says and laughs.
I drive over his boot and laughs, as he dramatically screams that he's lost a toe, and laughs.
"Well. I must get home, before Aimée finds a way to make me feel worse about myself" I say.
Caleb winks with his eye, and I blush again. Caleb nods. "You know.. Your chair could be perfected in many ways, speed, look and stuff like that. I could help you with that" He says.
I touch my wheels, and nod. "Yes, that would be great.. But tomorrow.. I have to go to this meeting about my condition" I say. Caleb laughs. "I'm going too!" He says.
"Well I guess I'll see you there?" I ask, and Caleb nods. "Annabelle? I'm going to lean down, and give you a kiss on the cheek in about 30 seconds" He says and smiles.
I blush and laugh. "30, 29, 28.." I start, and he laughs and leans down to kiss me on the cheek.
It's a little kiss like a gentle brush of a butterfly's wing, but still I shiver from my arms and down to my waist, and the hallow feeling that reminds me, that my legs are paralyzed.
My cheeks are on flames, when Caleb stands back up. He laughs. "Are you blushing Annabelle?" He asks. I shrug. "I don't know what you're talking about.. I've gotta roll" I laugh.
Caleb winks with his eye, and waves.
I wave, as I drive away from him. That's when I feel something vibrating in the pocket of my shirt. I grab the thing, and pull out a small radio. I press the only button it has, and smiles as I recognize Caleb's bitter sweet voice. "Hello Annabelle. I just want to say, that if I hear anything about you getting a kiss on the cheek by anybody other that me.. I will come for him.. Copy that. Out!" He laughs, and it's contagious, so I laugh as well. I press the button again, and see the red light, that shows it's recording. "Don't you worry. There won't be any guys kissing this cheek. Copy. Out!" I laugh into the recorder.
