A Poem a Day

During the year 2015 I have chosen to take on a challenge to write a poem everyday. I will try to put them all here everyday. Enjoy!

163. June 12th

A roof of leaves above my head,

A hue of maroon, deep dark red.

They shield me from the sun above,

Peaceful like a small white dove.

The tree they belong to sways in the wind,

From side to side it moves.

Until all is still, gentle and calm,

Then it will slow down.

It basks in the sun like an adder in the morning,

Spreading itself out to absorbs the sunlight.

Photosynthesising to produce nutrition,

Warming up its freezing cold innards.

The frost has gone its time to grow,

The tree comes out of his hiding place.

Summer has come I feel the warmth,

He says with a laugh and chortles to himself.

Yet in a few months it will not be so,

The cold will come and the sun will go.

The tree once more will retire himself,

Until next year when the frost has gone.

In winter all the leaves will fall,

Spiralling downwards towards the floor,

Yet they will return year on year,

They will not stop till the end of the age.

A roof of leaves above my head,

A hue of maroon, deep dark red.

They shield me from the sun above,

Peaceful like a small white dove.
