My poems written from 2015-2016

24. 24

Sometimes I'm afraid to let my boyfriend touch me

I'm afraid to be alone with older men

I'm afraid of being pulled over by a police officer at night

I'm afraid of walking out to my car after work

And even though I've never been raped

And no one has ever tried

I'm still afraid

I'm afraid because 1 in 6 women are raped

Yet only 6% of rapists are jailed

I'm afraid because women are more often taught how to defend themselves, instead of boys being taught not to rape

I'm afraid because many boys grow up with a large sense of entitlement

And I am a woman

And I am strong

But in the eyes of the law

I am weak

And I am a temptress

Always asking for it

Always my fault

As if I ever could possibly

Want that
