I needed him. I needed to feel his lips on mine, my body craved that feeling. The feeling of butterflies dozens of them flying around my stomach. I missed him more than anything. I knew that the only way I would be able to see him is if I trained harder, I needed to push myself. I needed to make sure he was safe.
As usual he woke me up early, 4:00 a.m.. I had gotten used to it, but I was still tired every morning. We are together, it seemed to be a little more pleasant to be here. The boy came and ate with us everyday, he was the only thing keeping me sane. He reminded me so much of my brother, it was comforting.
I went for my five mile run in the morning, I seemed to get faster every time I ran it. I could do things I didn't think were even possible. I could climb, and I mean I could climb like nothing I had ever seen before, I was faster than a monkey. I could control what I wanted to hear now, nothing was rushed. Before I would be able to hear everything, I couldn't shut any of it out.
My sight was something else, Eyes like a Hawke didn't even begin to come close to me. I could see things far away, the smallest movement.
After my run we did something I haven't done before. He stopped me when I got into the building and handed me a simple hand gun. I knew barely anything about guns, I couldn't even tell you what kind of gun it is.
"When am I going to be able to actually do something?" I asked taking the gun from his hand.
"We will talk about this after you practice shooting." He said. I was much more observant now than I used to be. I could see three targets that were exact replicas of prisoners.
"Shoot." He said. I didn't take my eyes off of him, I held the gun out to my side directly at the first target.
"Tell me." I said.
"Shoot!" He yelled sternly in my face.
I started to fire at the first target, two shots per target. One in the head, and one right through the heart. I didn't even have to look at them. When the bullet hit them, it was like hitting a real human. Blood came pouring out of all the holes, and then you heard the flat line. All of them were dead, fatal wounds. I looked back at Jayce he looked a little amazed, I knew he wasn't expecting that. I just gave him a little smirk, and handed the gun back to him.
"Tell me." I said.
"With the progress you have shown in the past two weeks, I would say you would be going out in two days." He said smiling as if he had achieved something not me.
Then I heard the door knob turn to open the door to the place. I looked over and it was leader.
"How is my favorite girl doing?" He asked. I just ignored it, and let Jayce do all of the talking, he seemed to be better at it than me anyways.
"She has shown amazing progress, I am honestly amazed, I didn't think she would be capable of this much." He said walking over to Leader. "I think that in a matter of two days she will be able to go out." He continued.
"You think so?" He asked picking up one of the clipboards that were at the front door. They were all for different aspects of my training monitoring the changes.
"I think you are right." He said putting the clipboard down. "I am very impressed with the progress, you have done very well." Leader said looking over at me, and smiling. I just looked away. Something about that man wasn't right.
"You can have a day off, you are farther ahead in progress than we had ever imagined you to be." Leader said, and then walked back out the door. He was planning something, and I knew it, what it was my brain was still trying to unravel.
I walked into my room, and started to strip, I needed a shower. I had learned over the course of the past two weeks that my body could over heat very easily. That explained why the needle burned so much, my body ran hot all the time, I could survive in extreme cold conditions. My shower only ran cold, it was calming to me.
I got out of the shower, and wrapped the towel around my body, and walked out of my room. "Do you think that I could get something to eat?" I asked looking at Jayce. He was sitting down at the table watching some movie.
We had it pretty good in here, better than people had it out there. "Yes, I will get something for you." He said standing up, and finally looking at me. He was a little shocked when he saw I was only in a towel. He looked in my direction, but not at me. I could hear his heart start to pick up pace a little bit, and smirked. I don't know how this would of excited the suit that they had me wear was skin tight. He was no stranger to the structure of my body.
I walked back into my room, and changed into some sweat pants, and a tank top. I walked out, and there was a nice bowl of ice cream sitting on the table for me. I grabbed it, and went down to the sit on the couch beside Jayce.
"How did you end up here?" I asked plopping down beside him, shoving my mouth full of ice cream.
"My father was, plus back at home there wasn't much choice. You came here or you were an enemy of the country." He said looking at me. I hated when people would look at me, it was very uncomfortable.
"What are you looking at?" I finally asked.
"You are perfect, you know that?" He said still looking at me. I knew what he was talking about, but it wasn't me. It was the virus they had injected me with. When I was normal, I had acne, my skin was tough. I used to have a dull blonde color hair, but the virus had lightened it. My body was nicer, the training was probably helping with that.
Then I saw his eyes glance down to my shoulder. I knew he was staring at my scar.
"Car accident." I said. He snapped out of his gaze, and focused back on me.
"What happened?" He asked.
"I was with Jason, we were driving back from a party. It was two years ago, it was winter, and the roads were ice. Some semi driver slid through a red light, and pinned our car against an old brick house. The impact was on my side. It had crushed my ribs, pinned my shoulder in between two pieces of the car that had been fused together on impact." I said running my hand over the scar on my shoulder.
He had gotten me out of the car somehow, and carried me a mile until a car finally came along, and helped us. He carried me a mile with a broken arm." I said. I could tell that Jayce was thinking, but again I couldn't tell what it was.
"He loves you." Jayce said.
"I love him." I said "Which is why I need to find him, I need to save him." I said looking up at Jayce. I had his complete attention. I could feel a tear start to stream down my cheek, and I quickly wiped it off.
"I am going to bed." I said putting the bowl of ice cream back on the table, and walking into my room. I closed the door, and crawled into bed slowly. I felt my heart sink back into my chest.
I closed my eyes, and let the tears stream down the side of my face. I took a deep breathe, and then fell asleep.
"Baby, wake up." I heard. I jumped up from my bed, and there he was. I couldn't find my voice, and even if I could I don't know what I would say.
There he was, all 6'3 of him. His eyes were starring at me, and I couldn't help myself. I jumped up, and wrapped my arms around him. "What are you doing here they will catch you?!" I asked pulling away from the hug, and wiping the tears from my face.
"I needed to see you, to know that you were okay." He said. Then his lips were pressed up against mine. My body started to tingle all over, and he laid me back down gently in the bed. I felt him slowly come up behind me, and his arms wrap around my stomach, just under my shirt. . His touch was so soft, and relaxing to me.
I felt his head Nussle in to the crease between my neck, and shoulder. "Baby, you need to wake up." He said. "Natalie wake up!" His voice got more urgent. Then I felt his arms start to shake me. My eyes burst open, and my heart finally sunk back into my chest. I couldn't believe it, I could still feel his touch, I honestly thought he was here, it felt like it. The dream felt so real.
Then I heard footsteps, and I knew they weren't Jayce's, or Brandon's. This man walked with a slight limp.
I grabbed the gun that was inside my bedside table. I got to my door that was still closed. I reached for the door handle, but before I could grab it, the door was being blown open. I dodged it, and then a man came running through with a gun. He must of not seen me. I held the gun to the back of his head.
"Who are you." I asked. "Fuck you!" He screamed. I shot him in the leg, and he fell to the floor in pain. I knew he wasn't going to tell me anything, but I didn't want to kill him. I clocked him in the back of the head with the gun. He fell unconscious to the floor. I could tell there were at least two more men in here.
I walked out of my room, and sure enough there was one. I shot him in the shoulder, and then in the leg without hesitation. My mind was having troubles catching up with what my body was doing. I couldn't stop myself, or control myself. It was almost like my body was in autopilot that I couldn't turn off.
The I felt hands wrap around my neck. I flipped the man over my back, and onto the floor in front of me. I put my foot on his neck pressing down on it, with the gun pointing right at the middle of his for head.
"Slow down princess." The man said barely able to get words out.
"Natalie stop." Jayce said running into the building. "What do you mean stop, they were trying to kill me!" I said not taking the gun away from his forehead.
"It was your final test." I felt a little angry, but happy at the same time, this meant I could go find Jason.
I took my foot off of his throat, and then gun from his forehead.
"You did better than we expected never being in combat before." Jayce said taking the gun from my hand.
"The truck will be here in five minutes to take you to town." He said placing the gun on the table. Medics were coming into the room now carrying all of the men out. All of them giving me dirty looks, I couldn't help but smile at all of them when they were wheeled past me.
