Later that night at the Dining Hall while eating the feast, Jack entered along with another male. My eyes widened, I knew who this was. This man was Josh, son of Marie, daughter of Haden...son of Eren. All forks and spoons dropped as the door closed, then the sound of chair scrapping on wood and everyone had their fist over their heart, staring at Josh. He chuckled and held his hand up, we returned to our seats, watching him. "I want to congratulate those who passed today, I know it wasn't easy." There was a certain sparkle in his eyes that kept me captivated, unable to look away from his brilliant green eyes. "On behalf of all the troops out there right now, I wish you the best of luck tomorrow in the team choosing." A look of confusion passed all of faces, and we blinked. Josh turned his head to stare at Jack. "They don't know? How could you not tell them?" Jackie leapt to his feet, anger flashing across his face. "What the hell do you mean teams? You mean we have to be stuck with others?!" The room went silent as we all waiting for Josh to answer, Josh however had closed his eyes, his hand pinching the bridge of his nose. "The five who passed, follow me." He turned and walked back outside, making Jack stay here, while the five of us stood up and followed, me in the back. Once outside we found Josh leaning against the fence staring at us with a stern expression. "The titans have evolved. The nape won't kill them anymore." The air around may have frozen, a sudden chill went down my back. "S-so you're saying they are unstoppable" Jasons voice shook with fear, his eyes wide. "No, you must hit three spots, behind both legs and the forehead at the EXACT moment." "So that's why we have teams..." Jacob muttered under his breath, then spoke to Josh. "We have five, that means two of us won't have a member. How is that fair?" A gust of wind blew past us, ruffling all our hair as Josh looked at us, speaking quietly. "None of this is fair son, but that's how it is. The team that has fewer people tomorrow will have someone placed with them. Now off to bed, the teams will be chosen at Dawn, then we head out." He turned his back, not even giving the salute and walked off towards the city, leaving us to ourselves.
"Unbelievable..." Lisa sighed, throwing her head back. "Of all the bad things to happen now we have teams..." Jackie and Jason looked at her, then smiled. "We could be a team, we are the best of our class ya know." Jason nodded, his glasses bouncing up and down. "We have the talent and brains to be the best team as well." "Just make sure we stay together...no one else." I almost felt their eyes on me as they spoke, my heart dropping quickly. Jacob could easily make it their team and they would take him too, but they hated me. There was no way they would let me join...I was bringing Jacob down...and I knew it. Feeling hot all over I turned on my heels and ran off, covering my face so no one saw my tears. I heard Jacob call out to me and try to follow but I didn't stop until I had reached the woods. Coughing on my sobs I dropped to my knees and dug my hands into the ground, feeling so lost and helpless...I was worthless. "Hey, whose there?" A voice rang out, I looked up and by the moon light shining through a few branches I saw Josh walking towards me, his eyes searching mine. "You're one of the five, unless I am mistaken correct?" Once close enough he knelt down beside me, his head at my level. I nodded, looking away so he didn't see my tears. "Why are you crying? You should be happy." My eyes reached the top of my head and I scoffed, his eyes widened. "You're...Kiali." His voice had changed, instead of mock happiness it held sadness and regret. "I'm sorry I didn't realize before, I've been so stupid to wonder why you weren't speaking..." Placing his body on the ground he leaned against the tree across from my shaking body, watching me. "I've heard stories about Wall Maria falling, but I never understood how terrifying it would have been to a girl of your age...losing your family all at once..." The wind rustled the moon lit trees and his head leaned back, staring upward. "Your brother was an amazing scout, always the first to kill, he never missed." My head lifted as I listened to him, I had never found out what had happened to Nik, no one knew as far as I knew. "He spoke of his sister a lot, saying he needed to impress her, make her believe in a better world." His hand brushed across mine, my cheeks flushed lightly as I looked at him, seeing pink in his face. A sudden snapping of branches made me turn and I coughed, Jacob was standing there.
And he was pissed.
