A N D I E ' S P O V:
After school, Luke and I went back to his place to do some homework before my doctors appointment.
Luke sat over on his bed doing homework, as I sat on top of his dresser with my binder in my lap, all I could think about was why Luke's parents were never around. Luke always said they were on "vacation."
I tried to forget about it, but my mind took control.
"Hey Luke?" I say then cover my mouth after.
"Hey, what?" Luke asked
"Uh, never mind..." I say, my voice trailing off.
"No, what?" Luke asked as he pouted like a kid.
I gave in to his cute-boyish ways and asked,
"Why aren't your parents ever around?"
Luke's expression disappeared from his face as he looked down at the floor. He scooted over to the edge of the bed and put his hands on his head.
"I knew I couldn't hide this any longer..." He said still looking at the floor.
"Luke, you don't have to tell me. I'm sorry I asked." I say a little embarrassed.
"No, It's time I told you." Luke said as he stood up and walked over to the other side of his large bedroom.
I pull my knees up to my chest, trying to comprehend what just happened. As thoughts raced through my mind, Luke speaks up again.
"In year 4, I was about 8 years old, my parents weren't very happy. They always argued, and fought about stupid things." Luke said as he started pacing back and forth.
I sat there, biting my lip, with my stomach in knots.
"My mum came into my room one day, crying. She walked over to me, and said, "Luke, daddy has to leave for a little while." Being a kid, I didn't understand what she meant." His accent for some reason always got thicker when he was either upset or angry.
"I asked her why she was crying, and all she said was because she was 'sad'. I went over to her, wiped away her tears and hugged her." Luke said sniffling after every few words.
"After a few years, my mum was depressed and careless. She was just... not herself. A few days after my 16th birthday, she left me a note on the front door." Luke paused, obviously holding back tears.
Luke walked over to his closet and pulled out a small blue box. He opened the box and grabbed a folded up piece of paper. He walked over to me and handed me the paper.
I know I should tell you this in person, but I don't want to bear breaking your heart. I'm leaving for a while and I don't know when or if I'll be back, but for now, this is good-bye. I'm leaving you with the house, the car, and my bank account to support yourself. I always want you to remember, your still my baby boy, Lucas. Your still that perfect little boy your father and I brought into this world. But your not a boy anymore, your a young man who has the strength to carry on his will. I'm writing this letter to tell you I still care about you. I don't want you to mope around anymore, so, now that I'm gone, I feel you'll be happier. Don't forget to do your laundry, the dishes, and keep your room clean, mister. I mean it. I love you, forever and always.
After I read the letter, I noticed a small wet dot on the paper. Then more and more appeared. I then realized I was crying. I put the note on a clear spot on Luke's dresser and look at him from the other side of the room. Still on top of his dresser I bring my knees up to my chest and hug them.
I feel his presence near me and I look up. His crystal blue eyes, shinning brighter than ever, all watered down. I remove my knees from my chest and wrap them around Luke's body. He wraps his muscular arms around my petite body.
Luke picked me up off the dresser, both hands underneath my bum, supporting me. He walks over and sits on his bed, as we both sob into each other. I can feel his tears on my neck, but I don't mind. I think I drenched his shirt from my tears, but he didn't care at that moment.
As we sat there, embracing each other, I felt us becoming closer and closer.
