I felt like a rabbit in a room of foxes.
to say I was uncomfortable, could be an understatement.
I didn't know what to do, I was just praying that no one would try to start conversation with me, because I don't know how long I would be able to hold it.
Igor Stravinsky composition "the Rite of Spring" has been playing for 20 minutes softly through the speakers, which has probably been the only thing keeping me from going insane
"you don't look like you're quite enjoying this party as much as your father is" the voice made me jump slightly, causing me to whip around.
it was a boy, but he didn't look anywhere near Andrews age, more along the lines of 18 years
and he had a black mask that covered his eyes??
Andrew hadn't told me this had been a masquerade ball.
"step father, and I'm having a fine time thank you" I said turning around to face the crowd.
"oh yah I could tell by the joyful smile on your face" he smirked sarcastically.
"if you don't mind me asking, why are you wearing a mask??" I asked changing the subject quickly, when I had noticed that no one else here had been wearing one.
I turned my body slightly towards the boy awaiting his answer.
using the time to study his face carefully.
I couldn't make out much, just that he had somewhat long blonde hair, and very odd blue eyes.
"well I have come to kidnap you" he said smoothly, taking a sip out of the wine glass I hadn't noticed sat in his hand.
my eyes widened at him, mouth slightly agape.
he glanced at me, before breaking out into a smile, and laugh.
"I'm kidding there princess"
I felt my chest flutter in a way at the meaningful yet meaningless name.
"I'm wearing a mask so I won't be bothered. None walks up to the guy with a mask and starts conversation, no the guy in the mask walks up to you" he smirked tilting his head slightly.
I raised an eyebrow at him before, turning back towards the crowd of dancing people.
"now it's my turn to ask you a question" his voice sounded in my ear once again.
"what is your name" he asked his voice showing a hint of curiosity.
"wouldn't you like to know" I laughed shaking my head.
"actually princess I would" he smirked setting his glass down on a nearby table.
I rolled my eyes at the little pet name, although it gave me a slight tingle.
"Isabella" I said glancing at him.
"Isabella" he repeated the name looking up slightly,
"yes I do quite like that name" he said smiling towards me again.
I felt my cheeks heat up, causing me to turn back towards the crowd.
but I could still feel a stupid smirk take over his face
"what is yours" I said my gaze remaining on the dancing people
"son it's time to return home, you mother is growing a bit tired"
my head whipped towards an older looking mad, his arm linked with a beautiful woman.
I glanced towards the boy, as he nodded his head while shoving his hands in his pockets, and began to walk.
he stopped turning around, and smiled at me.
"they call me Ace" he said smoothly shooting a wink, before continuing to follow his father.
"Ace" I said quietly to myself, once he was out of site.
I smiled down at the floor unknowingly swaying my hip slightly.
a feeling of mushiness and warmness took over my insides.
"I do quite like that name" I repeated his line from earlier to myself, causing a smile to overtake my face.
maybe Andrews parties weren't all that bad,
I just hope there's a certain annoying masked boy at the next one.
