For a year I have slaved,
As slave to my pen,
Or to my words,
But not as an obedient servant.
Grapple with my master,
To break from tra-
To scream - I AM NOT A MACHINE!
I do not write out of necessity,
Though at times,
Perhaps I feel I must.
No, I write with a purpose,
Far beyond keeping up appearances,
I write with the soul,
My sole purpose,
To speak truth from me,
In the most elegant,
Way this language will allow,
My overactive mind,
And how far I've come!
What truths I have fashioned from,
Birds, trees, computer screens,
All inspiration to me.
But each time I picked up,
That pen or that laptop,
I opened another door,
Another corridor of my mind.
And in searching for effect,
Or metaphors or riddles,
Found more meaning than could be,
Conceived by a thousand scholars.
I found something far more precious,
Far more elusive,
Than any moment of awe,
I found myself,
And I continue to find myself,
And it is my only wish,
That through this pen,
I could help someone else do the same.
ONE YEAR COMPLETE!!!!
Wow. I can't believe I've been doing this for a full year.
Who could've imagined I'd be sitting here, a year later, with 366 poems, 64 likes, 52 favourites, 40,000 views and over 300 comments?
Once again, thank you all so much. It's been a rough year, but you guys have made it worthwhile. It truly has been a privilege to share all these words with you. I've changed a lot, as have my poems. I don't think I expected to write as many positive ones as I did.
I've learned a lot about myself, and I think you guys have probably learned a lot about me.
This year's poems will all be republished in a "YEAR 1" movella, which, of course, means this is not over. Year 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 etc. are still very much part of the plan.
I am so grateful that this silly project of mine has become something more, something that exceeded my expectations by about 360 poems, 63 likes, 50 favourites, 39,900 views and 290 comments. And not only that, it has helped me more than I could imagine.
So thank you all, so so much, for continuing to support me, through everything. And one last thank you to @RainyWriter, for giving me the idea to do this in the first place.
Well that leaves me with just one more thing to say:
ONE YEAR DOWN...THE REST OF MY LIFE TO GO!
