I walked the campus of my new college. Who would've guessed I actually graduated high school? Anyway, it was raining and I finally found the building with dorm rooms. As I walked inside I could see a lot of people sitting in chairs. Probably waiting to get their dorms. I walked up to the counter and told the woman my name.
"Luke Hemmings," I said in a quiet voice.
"Please fill out these papers and sit with the rest to wait for your dorm." She said handing me two or three papers.
"Thanks," I said taking the papers and turning to find an empty seat. It was packed so I decided to go outside. It was still raining and I was sitting on a bench when a van abruptly stopped at the curb. A tall slender boy with shaggy brown hair came out of the back. He had nerdy glasses on. I chuckled to myself and continued to watch the scene. He grabbed a few bags and closed the door. The person in the drivers seat rolled down their window and said something to him and as he walked away he yelled, "Bye mum!"
Australian? Just like me. As he got to the door he looked at me and smiled, then entered the building. A few minutes later he came outside and sat at least a foot away from me.
"Hi!" He said in a perky voice.
"Hey," I said looking at him then at my knees.
"What's your name?" He asked leaning toward me.
"Luke... Hemmings," I said, "Yours?"
"Ashton Irwin," he said then he held out his hand, "Nice to meet you." I took his hand to shake it and looked up at him at first touch. His hand was warm and comforting and mine was sweaty and clammy. I quickly let go of his hand stood up.
"I'm going to go inside. It's too wet out here," I said to him.
"Bye!" He said waving as I walked away. I went inside the building to see three or four people. I sat down in one of the chairs waited. A few minutes later I looked out the window to see Ashton with his elbows on his knees staring at the ground. I felt bad for leaving him outside alone. In the rain.
"Ashton!" I yelled outside. He looked over at me and I gestured for him to come inside. He quickly got up and came in.
"Why did you stay outside?" I asked.
"Uh, I don't know," he said with a grin. I looked at him then went to sit back down. He took a seat next to me.
"Luke Hemmings," the lady at the counter called. I got up and so did Ashton.
"See ya around," I said and he- hugged me. We stood there hugging for a minute then I released. He smiled at me and I walked up to the counter. The woman gave me a key.
"Floor 4, room 411." She said smiling.
"Thanks," I said. There were only four floors so that means I was on the top floor. I got to my room and opened the door. A guy with red hair turned around to face me.
I was kind of disappointed to see I already had a room mate. Ashton was the only person I knew here and he was being really nice to me. It's good to have a friend.
"Luke Hemmings?" The guy said.
"How do you know me?" I asked trying to remember his face.
"Lukey Pukey," he said with a mean grin. Oh my god. It's Michael. Michael Clifford. My whole year of high school he bullied me.
I ignored Michael as I planned to all semester. Next semester I had planned on getting an apartment, but for now, I have to deal with this asshole.
I set up all of my things which took a while. I then heard a knock on the door Michael walked over and opened the door. It was Ashton.
"Hey is Luke in there?" Ashton said looking behind Michael and seeing me and smiling.
"Ya what do you want?" Michael said rudely.
"I was wondering if maybe you wanted to hang?" Ashton said completely ignoring Michael. I walked pass Michael outside the room.
"Sure," I said and left with Ashton. We walked down the hall and I could feel his stare burn holes in my skin. He took me out to a coffee shop on campus. I ordered my drink and sat down across from Ashton. He looked up at me and smiled.
"Why do you keep smiling at me?" I ask him giggling.
"Because, you look nice," he said smiling wider.
"So, who's your roommate?" I asked changing the subject.
"Niall Horan," he said.
"Oh shit," I said looking at my knees. Michael and Niall. Best friends. Another bully. I hope I actually make it out of college alive.
"W-What?" Ashton said wiping the smile off his face.
"Nothing," I said quickly. I put my elbows on the table and combed my fingers through my hair.
"Luke," Ashton said putting hi hand on my arm. I jumped a little and looked at him. His jacket slid off his arm enough so I could see the scars on his wrist. I stared at them. He noticed and quickly took his hand off my arm.
"I-I have to go," he said putting a ten dollar bill on the table and leaving. I sat there staring at the ten dollar bill. Was I the
