The War of Four Worlds

"I race through the woods, dodging trees and leaping over boulders, careful not to slip on the thin layer of frost on the ground. I routinely glance over my shoulder, seeing the pack of wolves quickly gaining on me. I come to a halt when I reach a drop-off. Very long way down, and the cliff is vertical, no way to slide anyways. I hear the panting and paws crunching snow, so I'll try something new." Read it to figure out what this is about! Hint: it gets very science fictioney (that's not a word) and there's plenty of blood and stuff so be warned. Also, watch the 'trailer' (it's just a song, actually, but if you like rock music you should listen to it).

20. Chapter 20

I fall off of the stool and hit the floor, unable to catch myself. What is going . . .

Jonah bends down and kisses me again, and then picks me up. I feel safe in his arms, but I know I'm not.

"If it's any consolation, Erika," Jonah says, "I do love you . . . but I'm afraid you won't love me." Outside the bar Jonah stops in front of a car, and the driver gets out. It's Zane. Suspicions confirmed, heart shattered.

"Well, Jonah, it sure took you long enough."

"I'll put her in the backseat with me," Jonah replies.

Jonah opens the door and gently slides me over. I can't believe I fell for that, I can't believe Jonah would do this . . .

The car starts moving again.

"You know, all this would've been easier if you'd just killed her early, before she got her immortality back," Zane tells Jonah. Jonah reaches over and strokes my cheek. Part of me clings to loving him, while the rest is repulsed by his touch.

"I don't want her dead," Jonah says, "I do still love her, you know."

"After 50 years of knowing she would end up hating you, even?"

"Yes."

"Alright, then. Let's go destroy a planet."
