My eyes snapped open, light flooding back into them. I turned over to look at Harry, sweat running down the side of his face. His skin was pale. Clammy.
"Would you like to tell me what the hell just happened back there?" I asked, my eyebrow raised. My adrenaline was still racing. My heart was beating out of my chest.
Harry raked both of his hands through his hair, his rings clinking against each other. His head tilted up towards the sky as he gazed up at the clouds, the sun light illuminating is hooded green eyes. I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
We were gone for that long?
He took in a shaky breath, drawing his lip into his mouth. I just stared as I watched the strong, powerful man in front of me crumble.
Leaning up against the nearby brick wall, he slid down it slowly. He placed his head in between his legs. "Later Olivia," he said breathlessly. His pained green eyes met mine, a scared look on his face. "We'll talk about this later." Harry began to rock a little back and forth. His breathing becoming much faster. Harsher.
In and out. In and out.
"This is exactly why I shouldn't have reached out to you Liv," he breathed. His gaze met mine. "I'm so fucking stupid." He clawed at his face. Crinkles forming in his forehead because of his now flustered state. "Stupid. Stupid. Stupid."
My eyes widened. "Calm down Harry," I said, my hands on my hips. What was he saying? "Wait, what do you me-"
Suddenly he got up and walked over to me, pulling my chin up with two of his long and slim fingers. Sunlight was reflecting off of each of his rings. "I mean," he murmured, his green eyes peering into my own. "I should have never become interested in you. I should have just forgotten about you that night. I-I should have just went on with my life. Left you alone." A dark look formed over his face, his full lips in a straight line. "B-Because now..."
He paused. I was scared. Harry's eyes averted towards the ground, his face solid. "B-Because what Harry?"
He let go of my chin, dropping his arm down to his side. While clenching his jaw, he let out an angry huff. "They won't leave you alone. Ever."
"Who are th-"
"Listen," he cut me off, his green eyes locked with mine once more. "I need you to get out of here." He reached into his pocket, and pulled out his wallet. A decent amount of 100 dollar bills were neatly placed inside. "Here," he mumbled, handing me at least 1,000 dollars.
What the hell? It would take me a few months to make that much money!
"Leave. Get out of town," he demanded. His face was no longer readable."You have to get out of here Liv. It's your only chance."
"W-What?" I gasped.
"You have to Liv. Or you'll end up just like your family," he sighed.
Please, don't go there.
"Dead, and just a pile of ashes."
A single sob escaped my lips. Tears brimmed my eyes, my hands covering my face.
"H-How can you just...say that Harry?" I choked out. His face filled with anguish as he studied me. A tear escaped my eye and slid down my cheek.
The pad of his thumb briskly wiped the tear away, his large hands then cupping both sides of my face. "Listen," he said. He inhaled, his eyes closing during the process. He exhaled, his eyes opening up once more. "I'm not going to let you end up like them Liv," he promised. His voice was filled with...I don't even know.
Too much is going on right now.
"I won't let you end up like them." He let go of my face, only to take my hands in his. That tingle happened again, and I shivered. "Which is why you need to leave now, before they find out every little thing about you."
I gulped. "Y-You can't just expect me to leave without any explanation Harry."
This entire situation is so unreal.
"If you know what's best for you, you will Olivia."
He gave me one last glance before taking a deep breath, and walking towards the stairs that lead down to my apartment.
"W-What if I don't want to leave Harry?" I questioned seriously. He paused in his place, turning so that he could look me in the eyes again. "What. If. I. Don't. Want. To. Leave?"
He strode across the space between us in a split second. "Are you insane?"
Maybe. Am I?
"You have the opportunity to get the hell out of here Liv!" he shouted, his hands raised in the air. "But, instead you want to stay?" He laughed. "You're ridiculous. Why do you want to stay here Liv?"
Because of you.
"B-Because Harry," I stuttered. "There's so much history here. I can't just get up and leave it all here." I ran my fingers through my hair. "How do you know about my parents?"
"Because," he sighed. "The same thing happened to my dad." My eyes widened. "But it's not story time right now. I need to get out of here," he said, looking around cautiously. "With or without you."
"Where are you going to go Harry?" I watched as his face filled with concentration. "Everyone around the world knows pretty much everything about you. You are a world renowned businessman. People just can't forget about you that easily."
He folded his arms across his chest. "I'd rather leave my entire premise behind me rather than getting killed. Don't you think that is the most plausible thing I can do right now Liv?"
I shook my head. "No, I don't think it is Harry," I argued. "If these people know so much about you already, and they want you dead, there's nowhere for you to hide. There's nowhere for either of us to hide."
Harry grumbled. "Well all we can do is try right?" He began to pull at the cuffs on his dress shirt, unbuttoning them swiftly.
"Take me with you," I breathed out. He looked over at me, a bright red flush forming over my face. "I-I wanna go."
"Y-Yes," I spit out hesitantly. "We've got to stick together Styles." His eyes widened. "You and I."
Harry unbuttoned the few of the buttons on his shirt near the base of his throat. His rings clinked together, as he undid the few buttons with ease.
"Are you sure Olivia?" he asked sincerely. "Once you leave...you won't be able to come back."
I drew in a shaky breath.
Was I ready to leave everything behind? Am I ready to take a huge leap of faith, not knowing if I will ever be able to start over again.
As I looked into Harry's green eyes, I saw something. Hope. A hope at living another life-a normal one. A life where I get to spend time with someone who will accept me for who I am.
Our gazes locked with each other's, his tanned skin glistening from the dimmed sunlight.
"Yes, I'm sure Harry."
He flashed the best smile he could give me at that time, and extended his hand out to me. "C'mon," he said, his hand waving me over. "We've got a long journey ahead of us Ms. Knight."
I slowly walked over to him, taking his hand gracefully. A shock went up my spine, and I watched as Harry's eyes widened.
I looked up at him. "D-Did you?" He quickly looked down at the ground, and wiped his face with the palm of his hand. "Never mind."
Harry began to walk, his boots clicking against the concrete material of the roof of my apartment building. He lead me down the few flights of steps, directly into my apartment.
"Grab what you need," he said, his eyes locked on the iPhone now in his hands. "You won't be back for a while," he murmured so nonchalantly.
Is this something he does often? Or what?
"I will be waiting downstairs with Ren." And with that, he closed the door behind him. Not another word slipping from either of our lips.
As I closed the door behind me, I caught a glimpse of something in Liv's eyes. Sadness. She didn't want to leave. I don't think anyone would favor the situation we are in right now. But, desperate times call for desperate measures.
I walked down to the landing of the staircase leading to the main floor of Liv's apartment building, and placed my phone up to my ear.
A few dial tones later, the line picked up. "Mr. Styles," Renier said. "How may I help you?"
"It's time Renier."
I cleared my throat as I looked at the silver Rolex watch that covered my wrist.
"Could you please check if my previous arrangements are still accessible at this time."
"No problem, sir," he affirmed. "Are you still interested in going to Ireland, sir?"
"Yes," I responded. I heard Ren shuffling around through the background. "And oh yeah," I added. "There's more than just myself going on this trip this time around."
There was a split moment of silence shared between us. "Ms. Knight is coming I presume?"
Is it that obvious?
I swear I heard him chuckle over the line. "And is that all Mr. Styles?"
"For now it is Ren," I breathed. "See you in a few. I am at Ms. Knight's residence."
And with that, the line ended with a click.
Just in time, I heard the door to Liv's apartment close. I watched as she slid her house key into a slip of paper and folded it. She slid the paper underneath the floor mat in front of her door and sighed.
"Guess I won't be needing any of that anymore, huh?" she laughed nervously. She swung her large black duffel bag over her shoulder and began to walk down the steps.
I smiled as she wobbled down the steps. "What do you have in that bag? A dead body?"
"Ha, ha," she teased. "I think this is a light amount of baggage, considering I'm leaving everything here."
All of the amusement was sucked out of the air, her face growing stoic in a second. She set the bag down on the ground, and her eyes began to brim with tears.
"This is all happening too fast," she breathed. Her hands began to rake through her hair, her chest rising and falling at a faster rate. "So freakin' fast." She began to tug at the black jacket covering her arms. "I can't believe this is happ-"
I did the only thing I could think of at that moment that would calm her down. I hugged her.
My arms wrapped around her slender waist, pulling her into me. Her body froze as we immediately touched. A strange sensation spread throughout my body, causing my heart to beat faster.
I felt her body begin to give in, as it melted against my own. Her arms wrapped around my shoulders, her head resting in the curve of my neck.
Dammit, Harry! Why the hell did you have to bring her into this shit?
That's what I thought as the poor girl sobbed into my neck. My heart broke in two. "I'm so sorry Liv," I whispered into her hair. My fingers began to make comforting circles on her back. "I'm sorry."
Look at what you've done to her Harry...
"Am I interrupting something?"
Both Liv and I froze as we saw Ren standing in the doorway. His arms were crossed over his chest, his lips forming the perfect smirk.
I cleared my throat and improve my posture. "No, not at all."
I picked up Liv's black duffel bag and swung it over my shoulder.
After wiping her cheeks with the back of her hand, she walked down the last flight of steps before me, and Ren smiled at her. "Hello again, Ms. Knight."
She nodded before walking out the doorway. It's like nothing had even happened. Even before I had the chance to walk out the door, Ren placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Take care of her, sir." He smirked, while glancing at Liv. "She's a special one there," he winked.
I watched as Liv's hips swayed back and forth as she walked towards the black SUV. Black pants emphasizing her slim, hourglass figure. Her head was held up high, a confident aura surrounding her.
God, that is so fucking sexy.
I bit on my bottom lip to stop the bold and sexual thoughts that were flooding throughout my mind.
The things I would love to do to her...
"Oh, I plan to. Thanks for your concern."
He nodded before walking out the doorway, signaling for me to follow him as well. Liv was already in the car, her hazel eyes gazing at me through the glass windows.
I opened up the passenger side door, where I slid into the front seat. Pulling my seat belt across my chest, I shifted in my seat. I glanced in the rear view mirror at Liv, who was now casually glaring out the window.
I watched as a small amount of sunlight shined on the side of her face, illuminating her flawless skin...her thick and full lips. Her high cheekbones.
In that very moment, I realized that I have only one thing on my priority list right now-keeping her safe. I will keep her safe...no matter what.
