CATARNEIGH

I walked into the Great Hall. I noticed nobody was sitting in their House Tables. Amanda came up behind me.

'This is the best thing about lunch, you don't have to sit with your house.'

This whole house thing didn't really concern me as I didn't have friends from the other houses so I just sat with Tilly on the Ravenclaw Table.

'Hey.' I said, as I approached Tilly.

'Hey. What took you so long?'

I sat down and grabbed a chicken wing.

'The stairs.'

Tilly laughed. She then looked up.

'Ah! Mail's finally came.'

I looked up to see an owl heading head first towards the Hufflepuff Table.

'I think someone's going to get killed by an owl.' I said. The owl crashed into the cake that a black haired girl was about to take a piece of.

'Where the hell did my mum find this?' I heard a girl say. Everyone started to laugh and the Finnigan girl went red- I wasn't sure if it was out of embarrassment or because it was funny.

The owl gave the Finnigan girl the package and flew off but not before hitting the black haired girl in the face with its wing. Finnigan picked up the package and started to unwrap it. I don't know why I was so interest but I really wanted to find out what she had got but I think I already knew the answer before she had even began to unwrap it.

Once the wrapping was off, I knew I was right.

'It's a broomstick!' Finnigan breathed.

'Do you think she knows first years aren't allowed broomsticks?' whispered Tilly.

I turned to face her.

'I don't know. It said on the letter, maybe it was her mum who didn't know.'

It seems me and Tilly weren't the only ones to think this. I heard a golden haired girl ask the same question to Finnigan but I didn't hear Finnigan's reply.

'I wish I had my own broomstick.' I said- not intended to say it out loud. Tilly looked at me.

'We're not all as lucky as Finnigan.'

I feigned a smile. Great. Now I've gotta use the schools.
