When I got home from that ride, I remembered that christmas was way past. That guy obviously didn't have a calendar.
I went into my room and Harry was sitting on my bed. When I walked in he turned his head a little too hard and got a cramp.
I rushed over to him and said, "I'm fine. Look, I thank you for coming, but--"
He kissed me and looked me deep into my eyes. "Don't ever lie to me and say that you're fine when obviously, you aren't." He rubbed his thumb gently on my cheek and smiled.
He chuckled and said, "I swear this will be the best birthday of your life."
He kissed me again and gave me my birthday present... that escalated quickly.
I went to school and looked around. I didn't like the looks of all the faces.
There was a crowd at the end of the main hallway and I went toward it. The crowd saw me and parted right to a parchment of paper stuck on the wall. In bold, my name was on the top listing.
I took it down and saw that it was the broadway. They changed some of the characters. The one, and only one of importance to me, was Kate's. She was my sister.
I turned and saw Kate pushing through the crowd yearning to see what it was all about.
I shoved the paper into her chest hard and said, "I applaud you on your performance." I was furious. I didn't want to have her act as a best friend, and now they made her act as my sister? Pfft. Who do they think they are.
I barged into Ms. Frost's room. Some students were there for complaints, I suspected.
They all stared at me with expressions that I couldn't make out, but it wasn't happy with what was going on. "Ms. Frost, I was on the limit to quit when you assigned Kate as my best friend. Now, you took it way--" "Ms. Calder. You will wait your turn for complaints. As you can see, there are others waiting." "She can go first Ms. Frost. I think we're all complaining on the same thing."
I looked at them and then back at her. "Look, I don't know what your thinking, but what your doing is not going to work. Kate and I have been enemies since we were in the nursery. We. Are. Enemies. Nothing less, but I bet you just pushed it more."
"Ms. Calder, I am only setting people to the parts where I think they fit best." "Kate will never be my friend. What do you not get about that?" "Spencer!"
I turned around and saw Harry. I relaxed a little and turned back to Ms. Frost. "This isn't over." "Oh, we just got started Ms. Calder. We just got started." She smiled at me while I turned on my heels.
I stepped out the door and accidentally shoved Harry with my shoulder.
"Spencer!" I kept walking. Where was she?
Someone grabbed my arm and another person grabbed the other. They tossed me into the janitor's closet and closed and locked the door.
A bucket fell on my head and I lifted it up. The light was intense, but I adjusted.
I looked up to see Eric and Harry. Both crossed arms and pissed. "How may I help both of you?" "Spencer, this is no time for jokes. Harry told me the whole thing about Kate and the broadway show. I thought you didn't want to be part of it."
"I was forced." "That still doesn't give you the right to yell at a teacher about it." I glared at him and said, "What happened to the best birthday ever project?" "That was ruined when you walked through that crowd."
I got up and adjusted my shirt. I looked up at them and said, "The bell is about to--" "We have fifteen minutes until the janitor comes in." Eric looked at him and said, "How do you--" "Long story."
Harry blushed and cleared his throat saying, "Anyways, the point is that you need to stop being so bloody emotional out there, and causing all this ruckus." "Yeah, I thought you didn't like drama."
They were right, but I'm still determined to get Kate off that list.
Eric looked at his watch and said, "I need to go. I need to meet someone in two minutes." He went out the door and closed it.
Harry turned toward me and shifted uncomfortably saying, "I have to tell you something Spence."
"If it's about Kate--" "It's not."
I looked at him and said, "What's up?" "I joined something and it's a big deal." That made me really uncomfortable. "You can tell me anything Harry. You know that, right?"
"Yeah." He scratched the back of his head and said, "I joined a..." He cleared his throat. This obviously was harder then he thought.
"Never--" "Harry. Tell me this instance." "This is going to ruin my reputation, but I joined a band. They're called the white eskimos."
"Do they go to our school?" "Yeah, they aren't that well known though. That's why I'm saying to not tell anyone." "My lips are sealed." "Thank you." I smiled weakly. How is joining an unknown band going to ruin his reputation. It's not like anyone will find out about it.
He smiled in relief and said, "Love you." He kissed me on the forehead and went out the door. I waited for a couple of minutes contemplating on what happened.
Harry joined a band, I literally embarrassed myself over a stupid thing, and Eric is meeting up with someone. Eric is meeting up with someone! He didn't tell me who! His girlfriend? Why am I so overprotective of him.
I barged out the door and almost rammed the door into the janitor and he said, "Had a good time, no we just talked." "That's no fun." I gave him and look and moved on.
I went to my locker and got my things. Josie came over with Jake and said, "Hey happy birthday!" "Thanks." "Yeah, no biggy. Why aren't you dressed all nice?" "Didn't feel like it." She raised an eyebrow and said, "Says the girl with tons of dresses in her closet. Yeah, you can wear a different dress everyday of this week and still have fresh ones left over. Girly what happened?"
I sighed and shut my locker and contemplated on a story. My mother. Perfect. "My mom came back with my brother. So, a lot happened." "Did she do anything special for your birthday?" I paused. What to do?
"She made--" "She didn't remember."
I turned and Harry was right behind me. "Harry." "Spence. I'm so sorry." "It's nothing." "It's nothing? Your eighteen now. It's a huge deal!" I sighed and said, "Look everything's fine now. I have you guys that remembered." "It still not right." "Well, life isn't always a happy fairy tale." "To your life it is."
That made me smile and said, "How about we all hang out at my place after school." "Then, we could go to the beach and hang out there, and go surfing!" "That's way to far, Harry doesn't know how to surf." "But, he has a girlfriend who can teach him."
I turned toward him and his eyes were wide and said, "Well, you are one of the most talented girls I've met. What can you not do." "That's also a long list." "Surprise to me."
The bell rang and it was first period. Time to find out who the mystery girl is form Eric.
A/N - I know this is bad, but I need to study for my exams... and study for other things that my teacher worked up. A life of a honors student. UGH! I hope you all enjoyed the chapter though. I know it's short, but it's what I worked up in the amount of time that I had.
